The peace of your enchanted world, Driftmoon, is at an end. An ancient evil is awakening, casting its dark shadows even on your serene home village.

I've been waiting for this game to come out for ages and have been playing it already for a while, I did prepurchase it after all. I have to say, It's not the best game in the world but it has that charm of an old shareware game. It adds a lot of homages to different games and the attention to detail is there.
Is it a big AAA game? No. Will it be a huge hit? Probably not. Is it worth the price? Hells yeah, it's good and solid fun for anyone dabbling in the RPG genre.
During the 18 hours it took me to finish the game I felt like being ten years old, playing Monkey Island: lost in an enchanting world inhabited by astonishing characters, totally into a strange but coherent tale.
I don't care about the faulty combat: who estabilished that rpg and adventure is about fighting and grinding? It was such a long time since I enjoyed dialogs so much, that matter!
Really a little gem.
while much smaller and simpler, there is no doubt this game was made by fans of ultima vii. a hoe of doom? a character named wislem? multiplying green slime monster? it is kind of quick and dirty (you can beat it in about 6 hours), but really cute. it's got references to other fantasy pantheons as well (like lord of the rings). gameplay is elegant and easily controlled with just the mouse. the characters are hokey and silly (a pirate crab, really?), and there is a ton of dialogue that i opted to skip through, but it's forgivable. it basically just made me want someone to pick up where the ultima series left off. this game shows it's possible and could still be really compelling and fun to play. open world would have been nice but can't have everything, right? definitely a worthwhile little adventure RPG.
So far this is the best game of 2013, and I'm almost sure it will stay that way. It has everything that a great RPG should down to a T. The story is very much the classic "save the world from returning Dark Lord" but it's very well told, full of interesting twists and moments both poignant and humorous in good proportion. The characters are also a uniqe bunch, likeable andwell written. The music is very good, not "buy the soundtrack NOW" good, but fits the game an enchances the experience perfectly. The same goes for the graphics, simplistic but fitting the old school nature of the game. You may at first feel they're to primitive, especially if You play a lot of new, good looking games, but after an hour or so You'll find yourself lost in the charm of Driftmoon. The world is full of object You can interact with, secrets to discover, and clever but not too hard environmental puzzles, that never brake the pace of the game.
There are only two downsides in my opinion- there are too few skills to choose from when leveling up, and the game is too short, as it took me about 15 hours, if memory serves. Still, those were the most fun 15 hours of playing any game I had in a long time.
