Description

Draugen is a single-player, first-person Fjord Noir tale of suspense and mystery, set in 1920s Norway.

About Draugen

From the studio that brought you Dreamfall Chapters, and the creative team behind The Longest Journey and The Secret World, comes a first-person psychological mystery set in 1920s Norway.

The year is 1923. You play Edward Charles Harden, an American traveller who's come to Norway to find his missing sister. But you're not alone: at every step of the way, Edward's accompanied by his ward, Lissie; a gregarious, independent and enigmatic young woman. Together, you must explore this scenic coastal community — nestled amongst the fjords and mountains of rural Norway — in your search for Edward's sister, and unearth the darkness that lies beneath the picturesque surface.

Key features

  • "I am not alone": explore 1920s coastal Norway accompanied by a living, breathing, independent companion
  • Interact with your companion, Lissie, through a realistic and dynamic dialogue system
  • Experience a thrilling tale through the eyes of an increasingly unreliable narrator
  • Find your own path through a scenic setting that changes with the weather and Edward's mental state
  • "A story about what lies beneath": piece together a gripping narrative with unexpected twists and turns

Additional features

  • A beautiful original musical score from award-winning composer Simon Poole (Dreamfall, The Secret World, The Park, Dreamfall Chapters)
  • Written by Ragnar Tørnquist (The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, The Secret World, Dreamfall Chapters)
  • Designed and developed by the team behind Dreamfall Chapters
  • Fully voiced in English, with motion-captured characters

Beautiful, linear, short. It's OK.

Draugen is competently made, using the unreal engine to portray the Norwegian countryside. For me, the historical setting in Norway was a huge plus for this game. It's as short as the length indicators on gog would suggest and gameplay/world interaction is rather limited, which decreases replayability further. This is kind of a walking sim which will have you walk and explore through an interesting plot with a great and dense atmosphere. I liked the character interactions, but the dialogue system felt a bit like it doesn't have any impact whatsoever most of the time. And gameplay thus really does feel like you're on a rail. Draugen is alright for what it is but don't expect any miracles and keep in mind it's a very short game. Kind of like a feature film to walk through and find out what thing you're allowed to click on. I would've wished for more interactions or more exploration.

Lovely short story

A really lovely, sometimes a bit haunting, short story about a man and his feelings basically; I really enjoyed it. Additionally, it's very calm, slow and absolutely beautiful.

almost very good

I really enjoyed the game. The atmosphere is great and so is the voice acting/dialogues. The perfect game for a rainy sunday in autumn. But that's a flaw of the game too. It's way too short. I finished it in about 3 hours, which is way too short. The puzzles are not really any challenge. It feels more like an interactive movie, which is fine by me. I guess the soundtrack is good too. I regret not buying the collectors edition which includes the ost, and the ost can not be bought seperately as it seems.

Starts great... but...

So this adventure game is a is mixed bag. On the one hand the visuals are stunning, audio and voice acting spot on. Lizzie is awesome at first. The story pulls you in. Game play is extremely easy. Not a lot of running around back and forth. Puzzles are really simple, or non existent. This game is more walking simulator, than point and click. They made Lizzie look so lifelike that the fact that her chest was not moving when she breathed bothered me, but later on that makes more sense. The story is the weak part. About half way through of the game the story takes a serious left turn. Which if you had noticed a few things at the beginning made a lot of sense. Once this twist happens the story kind of lost my interest. Once I finished the game, I uninstalled it. Really no replay value to this one. And it's a short game 3 hours or so to finish. It being short, it never got repetitive, or boring for that matter. Game was more like a 3 hour movie that a adventure game. Not really worth purchase unless a fan

Unless you're a fan of Ragnar, this really isn't that good. Midly gripping, boring, short and too easy. I wouldn't recommend this. Leaves a lot to be desired, left me mostly empty. I feel like the creator had hunger, instincts or maybe he had the perfect collaboration to make a masterpiece with TLJ 2 decades ago... However, his recent work to me anyways is pretty lackluster and forgettable. I can't remember alot of Dream Fall Chapters and Dreamfall was almost it's own creation and spin off game that never achieved the same status as TLJ and never will and it also dragged it through the mud... This game isn't really worth paying for. It's a resounding MEH and I could review it just with one word being... MEH.... I think much like Star Wars, if you slap a brand or creative influence to certain properties, people flock to it like it's something worthy... but this game is very very mid and if it wasn't Ragnar it would get very average to sub-average reviews. It's pretty but that's what it really does best, I can't say it does anything as well or better than how it looks and that's really not enough to make it worth the time and purchase. The story just feels empty and I didn't feel any sense of accomplishment or fullfillment after. Honestly, I think Ragnar is another hasbeen or one hit wonder. He seems like a nice guy but the content he puts out hasn't the kind of soul and lightning in the bottle as TLJ and worse he doesn't really seem to have any love or loyality to the characters and story of his greatest creation. His treatment of April in the sequels was TERRIBLE... Anyways, this game is very very mid and MEH, would not recommend. If you read the positive reviews, they are psuedo-intellectual, fluffy, trying to make this into some Ragnar masterpiece, clearly fans, but this game is pretty disappointing and really just not worth your time.
