After so many years, I was lured by all the fans claiming this game had the best combat system ever. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening.
The combat is super janky and a complete mess. Considering the story and world are bland as they can be, the combat can't save this game.
Don't listen to the fans of this game's combat. This game is a cult classic, I know. But in this game's case, the word cult is almost literal. I never played an rpg with worse combat than this.
I tried to like this game I really did but it's just bad, really bad.
Graphics : It's looks pretty bad but trully this is not even a problem.
Exploration part : Boring, there is no fast travel, all places look the same, it's monotunous, ok whatever
Story : Generic but that's also not the troublesome part
Dialogues : Made me laugh how badly they are written but yeah, I can live with that
Quests : Repetitive and basic to say the least but yet again that wouldn't bother me too much
Audio and music : Main menu song is cool, I think I heard some notes somewhere but nothing else.
Menus : A hell to navigate, god you can't even equipe items from your inventory (you have to go to equipement ://////)
Quality of life features : None really everything is very hard to accomplish even shopping isn't all that easy as it should be.
Gameplay : Well here we are, the part that made me ignore the rest of this game's problem and push forward and... no, it's not good, correct at best, if the rest of the game wasn't terrible perhaps this "ok" gameplay would be enough for me to play it but as I said the rest of DDDA really feels like a game of an inde company that decided to do something way too big for their first title.
Some attacks are pretty much required to play the game, your stamina doesn't have a regen boost when you are out of combat and not moving, too many stun attacks are used by common enemies wich will be the main reason of death for most players (full life, get stuned, get ganged, die, love the game cause you didn't save after walking for 30 minutes [cause no fast travel]), platform sequences in a game that shouldn't have them because it's just not made for it, pawns having a script to run in the wrong direction and die, etc...
DDDA has a feeling of a game that I should love but everything I love is ruined by terrible general design.
The game controls default to gamepad if any kind of controller is present... so if you have controllers that are not gamepads (like flight sim gear), the game automatically becomes unplayable.
The lack of a fast travel system and dull combat just makes the whole experiance dull. I really wanted to love this game but the dull sections just dragged on and on. Maybe the witcher 3 spoiled me
