Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Pick this up on sale. Note that it is ported from cosole, but they did a good job so it didint affect game play much. Note, this isnt multiplayer, it has a sytem to share "pawns" online, but no player interactions. IDK if it is worth the full price, but for under 10 dollars, I am more than satisfied. The game is reasonably pretty and hits the rpg adventure itch I needed to scratch.
I used to play this back on the Ps3-360 era back in the day and had so much fun, then they launched dark arisen and expanded a little bit on the original game with easy fast-travelling, BBI and some rebalances to make it enjoyable. The pawn system was also great and enjoyable, being able to create your own sidekick and sharing with other people (although with many flaws) was also part of the fun but sadly they ended up botching the online features completely with the GOG version, the online barely works and the rewards system is completely F-ed. i hope Capcom fixes this someday but seeing as The second game ended up dissapointing a lot of the OG fans, i think they're just gonna focus on their main franchises like RE, SF, DMC and Monster Hunter.
got this game on sale on GOG. glad i bought it as it is a good single player rpg with a nice pawn party system. This game has a pretty good story and gameplay. It got the usual inventory system, skill distributions, but overall, a nice pawn (followerers) system. I view this game like zelda: botd but with leveling system. Also if you enjoy elder scroll and skyrim rpg elements, this game should feel right at home.
minus 1 star for the ingame bug below:
I enjoy it alot but currently Im having this weird shimmering bloom effect bug during cutscenes. i guess it might have something to do with my "odd" 34' 3440 x 1440 res display paired with nvidia 1080? either way, i'll try to resolve this as the cutscenes in its current state is really is a distraction to my overall enjoyment.
This game has among the most cohesive and liberating combat mechanics in any video game. It combined ideas from dozens of genres and games and created an extremely fun, fast, and ingenious combat system. You can choose which moves and attacks to bind to different buttons and thus create a personalized scheme. Each move changes the way you play by forcing you to be strategic and by giving you valuable tools that you can use in several different ways.
The game world itself is also quite impressive. Although it’s a little empty by todays standards, the size of the environments and the detail in the assets still hold up. The monsters that inhabit the world are superb, having complex AI systems and detailed models.
However, this game isn’t without flaws. I found it a little frustrating when mid-way through the beginning of the game I failed an important quest. While reading the wiki I discovered that certain quests need to be completed in order, however these 2 quests seemed completely unrelated, and the game never warned you that that could happen.
Its character development is practically non-existent. Your companions (pawns) are so bland that the lore within the game literally strips them of their humanity. Even so, their knowledge system is quite interesting and can be useful at times. Also, the pawn system is quite broken on GOG, though I still decided to buy it here since it's drm free.
Having a balanced party is very important and can easily change the course of a battle. However, combat strategy is quite lacking, and the available commands are quite superficial and not very useful for most situations.
I hope that the rumors for Dragons Dogma 2 are true, and I will be buying it day 1 if the reviews show a worthy successor.
The combat is the best in any open world RPG I've played. The pawn system is pretty neat (though I didn't care too much for it, and never use them.) I am upset I took too long to finally try this game out. Climbing onto a dragon, popping mushrooms while smaching his heart with a hammer as he's flailing around trying to knock you off. WOW, this game is FUN. The story underneath it all is better than what's easily presented. The new game + is absolutely fantastic and an awesome part of the story. Dark Arisen is enjoyable as well, but more like dark souls in comparison to the original game. I min-maxed a str Strider on my final playthrough, really enjoyed Dark Arisen then. The open world can feel really barren, but setting up the stones for fast traveling (originally a purchasable dlc... eww.) can help mitigate the repetitiveness. A couple of times I thought it was over just to realize it wasn't.
If you like open world action RPG hack and slash games, this will scratch that itch really well.
If you like stories that are buried underneath a seemingly nothing/boring face, you'll love this game.
