Dragon Age™: Origins - Ultimate Edition

An awful, bland, boring excuse for a fantasy RPG. Despite what others claim, this never even came even remotely close to the quality of the previous Bioware games set in the Forgotten Realms. Instead of a rich, interesting world, you get a rehash of boring, underdeveloped tropes, sewn together by the blandest writing that is only nowadays being challenged by worse writers. Stay clear, it's trash.

The last big budget game I can remember that had PC specific controls and interface, i.e. it didn't feel like it was built for consoles first. The game itself is decent enough but this is what I remember most about it. It's a shame that nowadays it only seems viable for Kickstarters and indie developers to develop RPG's built for mouse and keyboard, whereas a triple A developer like Bioware has gone the way of many other devs who used to specialize in developing more complicated gameplay systems, but now develop the same homogenized shooter/RPG hybrid that everyone else does these days.

Game wouldn't work Physex errors, tried solutions in forum but no joy

I cannot exit the inventory screen in the tutorial. This is a waste of time and money.

If you want quick, full-throated roaring action, this is *not* the game for you. The combat is the very definition of tedious, exasperating and frustratingly dull. The story, if you can hang in there, rewards you as entertaining, the characterizations interesting and the romances satisfying, if you like that sort of thing. Pair this story with DA:2's combat and it would have been unbeatable. Alas. Three stars for the story and characters. No stars for the painfully awful combat and sluggish fight animations. Does it deserve the frothing and slavishly bestowed 'legendary' status it has? No, not remotely. It had novelty and talent behind it, but the execution was ultimately not what it could have been. Buy it on sale, and praise to the excellent work by the writers and voice actors.
