Description
Door Kickers: Action Squad is a crazy old school side-scroller action game that puts you in the role of a SWAT trooper and sends you to deal with the bad guys in Nowhere City USA.

Choose your gear, then kick the doors down and face the action. Adapt and react by the seat of your pants, and if needed - restart without a care and rethink. Master weapons recoil and time your reloads, use distance and cover to your advantage and use the in-game Strategic Abilities to decide for yourself when healthpacks or gear refills are needed, or if that team-mate of yours is worth saving. Or just save up the Points earned and unleash your Ultimate to waltz through that tricky final room.

And when it gets too hard, bring over a friend to help.

Quick Points:

  • High detail retro graphics
  • 6 playable characters, each with unique gameplay and level up options
  • Unique in-game Strategic Abilities system
  • 84 non linear levels to complete
  • 60 weapons and gear items
  • 20+ enemy types and 4 mission objectives
  • Zombie invasion mode allowing you to play the game again in a new way
  • Couch and Online Cooperative Multiplayer

requires thought & quick reflexes

I picked this up a while ago and finally installed it last week. I've had a lot of fun playing this. With 6 character classes, skill trees that affect the entire team as well as individuals, a multitude of weapons and gear plus some interesting environmental features makes this a lot of fun to play. You'll definitely need to go from 0 to 60 in the blink of any eye while playing. Do your best to pay attention to cues, look ahead and lean to anticipate what could happen. Many times you'll be able to see ahead and plan accordingly. Other times you'll go in blind. Once you kick a door open you have to go fast and hard but watch out for hostages. unfortunately this isn't a perfect game. There's only 4 types of missions: Rescue hostages, eliminate all the enemies, defuse the bomb (then kill all badguys and rescue all hostages) and kill everyone except the one guy you have to arrest. Police work is kinda glossed over with this game... There's a lot of room for improvement definitely but I really enjoy this light action game. One thing that has really set it apart from its bretheren is the visual storytelling sprinkled in everywhere. As you approach an airport you see 3 fellow cops taking cover, one cop dead in the street and a hostage out in the open. It's set up nicely and sets the scene well. you've arrived during a hostage crisis and you're going in hot. It's little stuff like those details that make the world in the game come alive. I would love to see a wider variety of missions and more options as to where you start a mission instead of everyone starting at one. as it stands, this game is a lot of fun and worth my money.

nice "tactical" (coop) platform shooter

This game reminds me of Broforce, it has little to do with the original door kickers, but... this game is fantastic on its own way! As far from tactics; you can use different type of characters, all with different traits. Every character has a leveling system, so over time your skillpoints create a beter character, upgraded weapons etc. However, as fantastic this game is, there is a serious drawback here... The game comes packed with a level editor, which means you can create your own levels. This is nicly integreated with stream workshop, but useless for GOG-users. This means that you are beter off with this game on Steam... [Unless you are able to find level-files online to download so you can manually put them in the gamefolder...] Another point of criticism; somewhere around chapter 4 it becomes impossible to finish levels solo, you need a 2nd player to finish the level 100%. Just beside these "small" points of criticism, you realy realy realy should get this game! [oh, euh... little warning: this game is addictive].

What you see is what you get

Watch the trailer and maybe some Youtube videos of this game: What you see is what you get, so you can easily judge yourself if you'll like this game. I was worried about the controls and "feeling", but the gameplay is as good as the trailer. There are a lot of weapons, abilities and equipment to add variety, but you will end up doing the same thing over and over again: Breaching and shooting. Do you like that? Then you'll have a lot of fun! It took ~20 hours until I've finished all maps and maxed out every character.

Havent played No.1

I got dk2 because of the pixel art. Its fun to try to get through each level, alot of variety in layouts and enemies, all the characters you can use are unique in their gear and the ways they play. Great sound and music, kind of a cross between arcade beat em up and an 80s cop show like beverly hills cop (sound wise) If theres one thing that is a flaw to me, its that you tend to either murder everyone in a room instantly or get killed almost straight away. This is not always the case and as you get more upgrades you can plan how you will get your kills- which actually is a plus as if forces you to try multple ways to finish the level and has a good challange to it. So as gripes go its got upsides Your characters can upgrade skills just by playing the game, but if you want the stars to buy new gear, you have to beat levels by taking out all the bad guys and try not to kill hostages for the 3 star rating. Alot of levels, different types of enemy, different kind of swat to try. This game most reminds me of a more fleshed out version of the arcade classic - Elevator. More Pro's then cons in this one. The pixel art is great, sound and music old school, very challenging. Its not perfect but I hope they make a door kickers 3

Nice Co-op Shooter

Door Kickers is fun, and even more fun with a partner. If you like 2D side scrolling shooters, there’s almost no reason not to get this game, at least when it’s on sale. That being said, this game isn’t without problems. The leveling system: all the characters cap at level 17, which is nowhere enough to max out all the skills for any of them. If you’re used to being able to max out skills, it’s annoying and while you can respec, it feels like it would’ve made more sense to let us level a little more. Zombie Invasion Mode: doesn’t add all that much to the game. It’s the same levels as the main game, just with a few zombies. Oh, and a few portals to close. It makes getting three stars impossible, however, as zombies will break through doors and kill hostages. This is an easy solve, however: just play the regular level. The stars carry over. Secret Donuts: I’m not sure why they added hidden donuts to the game, other than to have extra achievements. It’s like the opposite problem of the leveling system. You can be a completionist, but have nothing to show for it. The minor nitpick that doesn’t hurt the game but annoys me anyway: there’s one star left over after unlocking everything. One. Damn. Star. We can overdo the stars but can’t level up past 17, which is such an odd number to stop on. This will forever annoy me.
