Waking up on Mars with no memory and a wound you can’t explain, you begin a desperate search for answers - about yourself, your past, and the catastrophe looming over two worlds.
 
You soon meet Samantha Miles, an agent of a sketchy world-wide conglomerate, who claims to know you. As she helps you with your identity, you aid her in the quest to find a long lost friend and missing agent. When the original events of Doom 3 unfold, the two of you must scramble for safety while still tracking down the missing agent and your identity.
 
Haunted by fragmented memories and guided by the familiar voice of a girl named Lee, you’ll unearth bittersweet flashbacks, and fight for survival as a mysterious and deadly invasion spreads from the shadows of Mars.
 
Doom 3: Phobos is a free mod for Doom 3, available to anyone who owns the base game and DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil Expansion. It is developed non-commercially by Team Future.

Stunning gfx for a 3D engine from 2005

I played Doom 3 in 2005 or 2006. I actually played the entire Doom franchise. When I saw the video's of this mod, I was in awe: compared to Doom 3 the graphics look like a game from 5 to 10 years old. Ok, the enemies are sometimes a bit chunky and the textures vary from fuzzy to very sharp. But the atmosphere, the lightning, the smart use of neon colours. Respect to the developers of this mod! Of course, the story is also very well written and it is lovely playing all episodes. On a critical note: sometimes the fights are ridiculous, even on the easiest level. And some puzzles, like the silos, are over-engineered and they are way too complex for, what is essentially, an FPS shooter. Can't wait until episode 4!

I wanted to play Doom not a teenage romance drama, come on. Happy GOG is implementing mods to their games in one click though.

Better than the real Doom 3

Holy crap is this good. It's much faster paced than Doom 3, more action oriented, a more interesting story, it's a fantastic FPS. Definitely one of the better Doom mods out there.

Super Mod with a lot of action

Filled to the brim with good levels, action and a few scripted events. Sounds, music (very little btw) and monsters are mostly re-used Doom3 and/or expansion, but used very well here. The puzzle elemnets are integrated very nicely, although some ways forward require youto think upwards or donwwards instead of through something. Worth a shot if you have the required games.
