Multiplayer is hidden, NOT removed.

If you're looking to play some DRM-free LAN multiplayer, you can re-enable it. Edit your Default.cfg in the BASE folder. Scroll to the bottom and add: com_skipintrovideos 1 seta com_allowconsole 1 net_useplatformbackend 0 This set of CVARs skips the company logos, enables the console, and most importantly, re-enables the multiplayer menu. You can use the GUI in game to set up your multiplayer, and then use the console on ~ to CONNECT to the host's IP. I would have rated this poorly if multi was truly removed, but since the content I want is still here, I think it's worth 4. If it hadn't been tampered with, I would have given it 5.

DOOM 3 VS BFG. What you need to know

As a die hard Doom fan from day one I feel qualified to throw my two cents in here. First of all DOOM 3 (either version) is a different take on the franchise. They are slower, feature cutscenes, etc. This isn’t the old school fast paced “run n gun” your used to. Is that a bad thing? In my opinion no. Lets look at the differences between BFG, and Vanilla DOOM 3. DOOM 3 BFG (GOG Version) *Upgraded graphics engine ID Tech 5. (without using mods, this is the better looking game) *Native Xbox 360 controller support *Includes the expansions. Resurrection of Evil. *Includes The lost Mission (exclusive to this version) *Includes DOOM, and DOOM 2. (Both with native Xbox 360 pad Support) *3D TV Support. I haven’t tested this, but its there and I’d like to try it! *The flashlight is fixed to your shoulder, and you can use it while shooting. *There seems to be more ammo available DOOM 3 & Resurrection of Evil (CD Version) *Mod support (http://www.moddb.com/games/doom-iii/mods) *Co-Op Mode (with Mods) *Better Graphics (with Mods) *Flashlight Mechanic. You can either shoot, or see. (I admit I enjoyed this) *Less Ammo (there’s enough, you have what you need, but sometimes its tense) Verdict: DOOM 3 BFG is still DOOM 3. Don’t listen to the haters. If you can score this title for $4.99 on a GOG sale do it! I also recommend grabbing the CD version on Amazon as well, the mods are fantastic. To me this title (either version) has tons of replay value, and it was a game changing title inspiring such games as Dead Space. Worth every penny in my opinion.

Internationally Cencored Cashgrab

I love GOG. I really do. But Bethesda delivered something really odd with this. See: Doom 3 was uncut worldwide. But the Add-On never got a release in germany. So i know that Quake4 was released here too, also about the Wolfenstein-Discount - but i cant see it. But GOG Germany shows me Doom 3 BFG ... To get a release for the BFG Edition, they made several changes: - Doom 3 + AddOn: Some textures and characters were altered, to look more "demonic". (I also remember the lightning changed here and there too.) - The contained Doom2 is also cencored, since the all Wolfensteins up to RTCW are forbidden in germany. So they replaced stuff in those Doom2 secret-maps. - Overall the performance was horribly off. Doom 3 and the AddOn is something worth 4-5 stars. Its a horror-rollercoaster with great sound, an excellent overall atmosphere and just plain shooter-fun. But the BFG Edition is just ... a cashgrab. And i will not support this. 1.) Wait till GOG Releases the original Doom 3 with its great Add-On as some sort of "Gold-Pack" 2.) Help break the Region-Lock.

HOW TO GET YOUR CD KEY

You can not get your CD Key to use as a passcode unlock to start the game through the GOG App. You have to sign in through your account on your webbrowser. Then click under your account name at the top. An option will be Games. Click on it. Your entire game library (My collection) will show up. Select Doom 3 the NON BFG edition. A menu will pop up. At the top there is..... System ;Windows Language:English More> Click More. It will bring up a pulldown menu. The second choice is Serial Keys, Click/select it. It will then show both your Doom 3 Serial Key and Your Ressurection of evil Serial Key. You will need both. There is two keys each with a 18 digit number and letter code. the first 16 of them go together. The last 2 where there's a space inbetween is put into the small box on the right after putting in the first 16. Same for the Ressurection of Evil expantion Key directly underneath that. These CD Keys can't be copied from the GOG website menu you will need to write them down. I would also suggest puttuing them on a text notepad file ans save it in your Domm 3 game folder in your GOG folder in your hard drive. I'm giving 1 star. NOt for the game it's great. But for GOG for not making it clear exactly how to get your CD Key and me needing to type this in the first place. And not being able to look the Keys up in your library in your GOG app. That is REDICULOUS and BS. It's taken me 6 months to figure this out!!!!! It can ONLY be done in a webrowser!! And no explanation of it anywhere! How many people refunded because they didn't know? Seriously!

Underrated gem. Phenomenal 2004 game!

When Doom 3 released in August 2004, I skipped it due to several reviews I read about the game "not feeling like Doom" Boy, was I mistaken. Both the BFG and original (1.3) editions are here, and, dare I say it, Doom 3 has become my favorite game of the series. And yes, Doom 3 absolutely feels like Doom. Biggest criticisms of the original game are: 1) The flashlight can't be equipped at the same time as a weapon 2) Shotgun feels somewhat underpowered (this is not entirely true) 3) "Cheap" enemy attacks, e.g., the Imp's leap 4) Annoying enemies, such as trites and cherubs 5) Excessive screen jostling when hit Critics of the BFG edition say that it has too much ammo, is generally too easy, and that the shoulder lamp was poorly executed. I completely disagree. Despite all these criticisms, Doom 3's "scare factor" is what makes it so good. Also, the game's open approach to modding makes it possible to modify scripts and definition files to allow us to address issues such as the shotgun spread, screen jar/kick amplitude, etc. Note that modifying these files, while fun, can also upset the game's balance. As for running Doom 3, the BFG edition plays on just about anything relatively modern in Windows 7 x64 and newer. The original (v1.3) edition from GOG plays on Windows XP, and supports Creative's EAX. If you want to play the original version on period-correct hardware, then, in my experience, Doom 3 (original) plays well with: - Pentium 4 (Prescott 2.8 GHz) or better - Creative X-Fi or Audigy2 PCI sound card. I'm using an X-Fi Elite Pro, and it sounds incredible - A decent ATI Radeon x800-series or nVIDIA GeForce 6800-series GPU with 256 MB of VRAM - 2 GB of system RAM. A Core 2 or early Core i5/i7 build with an available PCI slot (for a Creative X-Fi or Audigy2 sound card) and an nVIDIA 9600GT or better makes the v1.3 GOG release (non-BFG edition) of Doom 3 run like butter.
