You play as Wilson, an intrepid Gentleman Scientist who has been trapped by a demon and transported to a mysterious wilderness world. Wilson must learn to exploit his environment and its inhabitants if he ever hopes to escape and find his way back home.
Enter a strange and unexplored world full of strange creatures, dangers, and surprises. Gather resources to craft items and structures that match your survival style. Play your way as you unravel the mysteries of this strange land, in this challenging and unnerving wilderness survival sandbox game.
Uncompromising survival & world exploration. No instructions. No help. No hand holding. Start with nothing and craft, hunt, research, farm and fight to survive.
Dark and whimsical visuals: 2D characters and odd creatures inhabiting a unique 3D world.
Randomly generated new worlds! Want a new map? No problem! At any time you can generate a new living and breathing world that hates you and wants you to die.
After years of development and a ton of revenue this game is still buggy and lacks basic usability. Considering the time investment required for this game, I recommend trying something else
Harsh thing to say but it's true. Before I go into why this game is terrible and why nobody should buy it. Don't believe the positive reviews because they're a bunch of fanboys stroking this games ego. There's nothing here that's redeemable.
If I can save anyone their precious time and money I suggest you read my review and the others. Ignore the shitty 5 star reviews. I know it's a cliche to say the 5 star reviews are lying, but I'm honestly starting to believe these positive reviews are just paid shills.
PROS:
-Art:
I absolutely love it! I think it's such a great aesthetic that makes the game feel unique and quite charming. The cartoony dark style helps create a nice cryptic, and creepy atmosphere. Unfortunately, the art is only good part about this tedious monstrousity that has the audacity to call itself a game. So while you may think this game looks good, it plays like a boring walking simulator.
CONS:
-Story and the lame environment
There's no story whatsoever involved. The reason I'm listing this as a con is because I believe there was so much potential for lets say idk....caves? Houses to explore, mountains, ocean, lakes, etc. Hate to say this, but even a mobile game called "The Blockheads" which is a 2d sidescroller is far better at having different places, and even though there's no story it feels like what an open world should feel like. Not to mention the gaemplay was far better there!
-Gamplay
Dear god! How the hell can anyone play this garbage!? It's the most tedious, boring, repitive, and unintuitive thing I've played yet. The first hour seems fun until you realize you have no reason to upgrade or create anything new because you can't get the resources needed. You'll be grinding the same exact trees, rocks, fireplaces for no reward. the design of this game fucking sucks because the logic of survival is backwards. I had no reason to create anything because everything would just be the same boring bs.
Don't buy this game! You'll regret it!
The first 30 minutes of the game is tedious and confusing. Then the proper game kicks in and just remains tedious. Then you die and have to repeat the tedious and confusing bit, with less confusion this time but slightly more tedium. Repeat until you get bored and are forced to write a negative review to warn others of the massive style and pretense over substance and consideration for the player this game demonstrates.
I liked the art style, it's a shame the coolness wasn't transferred to the gameplay.
And it has pointless unlocks (characters), because of course it does.
Crap.
The best feature of this game for me is the multiplayer and here on gog not exist. I can't recommend to buy this incomplete game.
For Steam they have all features and updates and here on gog we got the incomplete game? uff no im not interested.
I'm starting to think that Klei Entertainment is a one trick pony because everything I've played from them not named Mark of the Ninja has been awful.
This game is BORING. You wander around looking for stuff to feed whatever meter is pestering you at the moment, food, tired, brain, whatever. Man, I hate survival games. I can't honestly tell you of one I've ever genuinely enjoyed. But at least the other ones don't have a character with an obnoxious out of tune trumpet sound for a voice.
