  • Become part of a reactive, living and vast open world. Explore many different environments, fight all kinds of fantastical creatures and discover tons of desirable items.
  • Experience gripping party- and turn-based combat. Manipulate the environment and use skill & spell combos to overcome your many foes: Use magic to make it rain on your enemies, then cast a lightning spell to fry them to a crisp.
  • Experiment with different skill combinations to ruin the day for enemies and townspeople alike.
  • Play with a friend in co-op multiplayer. Make decisions together (or disagree entirely), as your interactions and relationship with your partner influence the game.
  • Unravel a deep and epic story, set in the early days of the Divinity universe. No prior experience with other Divinity games is necessary, however. The game takes place well before its predecessors, Divine Divinity and Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga, but will still feel familiar to fans.
  • Classless character creation lets you design the character of your choice. Endless item interaction and combinations take exploration and experimentation to another level of freedom.

Some longish bits but combat is superior

An excellent game with brilliant turn-by-turn combat. Some flaws: - Game flow is quite irregular with some sections which lack action. - It's a game that makes control very powerful. You can paralyze enemies in various ways. The downside is sometimes it's kind of combat-breaking (by attacking before combat starts and denying bosses their abilities). - Crafting makes little sense, but is quite mandatory to reach your full potential (though you CAN play without it no problem) - Charisma is disappointing. The bits where you have to negotiate are quite optional, use a faire bit of randomness, and because of the way the scores work, you need a very high score to make a difference. - Special attack bypass your attack scores, which is kind of weird. - Charm effects are brokenly powerful, because the AI treats charmed enemies as full-fledged foes and unleashes hell on them, rather than leaving them well-alone until it fades (as you would do as a player). I personally chose to not use Charm for that reason. - The story is quite complicated and I didn't really bond with it

Superb

This was in my "to do next" list for a few years and I finally managed to give it a try, I had a blast, here are what I consider it's best qualities: - Freedom of building your character, you are not restricted to standard fantasy stereotypes, how about an axe and shield wielding pyramancer tank dude with summoning capabilities? - Freedom of using "unorthodox" means to solve situations, I beat the game with no lockpicking chacracters, I would just burn wooden chests and doors with my pyromancy spells (didn't work with metal chests, but still a nice touch); - Elemental properties were great on combat and non-combat scenarios, fire would melt ice, water would weaken fire based characters and so on (there are some flame dudes and their boss in a burning forest in Cyseal, even being weaker than them, I would just use my rain spell all the time to greatly weaken them and finish them off with a water-based weapon); - Frredom of approaching a combat situation with different tactics. To my playstyle, each character had some summoning capability, I would attract the enemies around an area and then overload the battlefield with my summons (and AoEs); - Non-combat scenarios were also fun, with different ways to complete each quest; - Needless to say, great replay value, looking forward to trying other builds and new tactics; - The plot and dialogue were mostly light-hearted and fun, but the game also managed to handle serious matters with care (like what happened near the elemental forge in Hiberhein or the quest centered around the librarian Orc or pretty much anything in Hunter's Edge). If you like CRPGs this game is a must, can't wait to play the sequel in the following months.

I'm so glad I found Larian's games

I have always been a fan of RPGs. I found this game by accident and to be honest I was a little bit worried about the turn-based game style. That’s not really my thing. But ooh boy, it did worth it in the end. Let me say upfront: this game is far for perfect, it has it has its flaws, still this game managed to amaze me through the whole story. So what was wrong: I have never seen such game mechanics in my entire life. Almost every corner of every map could be exploited by the Pyramids. 90% of the puzzles and the locked doors had no meaning. I don’t really have a problem with it I just found it extremely weird. And there’s the difficulty. Okay, I get it, it’s a tough game. I knew what I was getting, so no complaints about the combat difficulty and I didn’t mind the occasional vague quest log. But that Source Temple puzzle omg… I seriously don’t know how one should figure that out, I was looking for clues or hints for hours and nothing. I had to watch a freaking yt video in order to figure it out. But man, no matter how many nerve-racking thing I stumbled into, this game managed to amaze me from the beginning till the very end. This is truly a gem. The visuals, the vivid environment is breathtaking. The characters and storytelling is pretty okay. You get the usual scheme with a various selection of teammates with different backgrounds and quests, etc. You will find all kinds of npcs there, interesting enough to don’t lose your attention till the end. And of course, the music. This soundtrack is a masterpiece. Maybe the best part of the game (for me) is its music, and how it uses it. The story was a bit slow paced but built up nicely and I was pleased with the ending. Overall I’m very satisfied with this game. I truly enjoyed every minute of it and looking forward for more from this studio.

Old title that still holds up!

Caught this on a sale after putting hundreds of hours into DOS 2. Holds up very well, story and voice acting are impeccablle. I love the system where you can argue with your companion. If you're a fan of CRPG's this is a must play.
