In contrast to some other reviews i think that the story is ok. There are a few great plot twists, and the companion stories (i had sebille, fane, ifan and lohse in my party) were also at least interesting, some were really great (especially the sebille and fane story lines imho).
Where this game really fails is the item and the crafting system.
With every levelup all the items you have get useless, because the new items on your new level are just that much better, and every enemy is based on those values. But the game does only throw sh*t your way - even with lucky charm (imho absolutely mandatory) you will almost never get an item which favors your playstyle or your character builds. And don't get me started on the quest rewards ...
The other problem is the crafting / food system. Just too much stuff with too little use.
In the end i spent around 60+ % of my playtime managing my inventory and had to force myself to actually play this game to the end. I gave up on it some years ago and would not have spent the time were it not for COVID-19.
Sorry, but this game is just poor for me. The first part was simpler but had a perfectly balanced mechanics, a fairy-tale atmosphere and a brilliant coop. Definitely one of my favorite crpg. The second part floods us with a lot of unnecessary skills, a non-engaging plot, meaningless brutality and a dark atmosphere without real depth. It was all sprinkled with poor quests and endless, frustrating combat.
For me, the second part has no advantages of the first one. Multiplayer sucks in and drags in unnecessary competition into the coop. I know I'm lonely in this view but it's just my post-game review.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is well worth every penny. Within the first hour or so, you'll start to get a hang for some of the game's mechanics. You'll be able to play this game just by exploring and discovering more about each NPC or events. More over, this game allows you to make your own choices and build your own party. I really enjoyed this game as a newcomer to the genre itself. I think you'll really enjoy having the ability to make your own choices in this game during interactions with NPCs.
5/5 in my book
Thoroughly disappointed. I couldn't finish the game, it got so boring. Story is and quests are the most generic fantasy stuff you always see in fantasy RPG's. Characters are extremely shallow. Combat starts to get rather repetetive. Crafting is a waste of time.
Also crashes randomly, for which there hasn't been a fix in two years.
As an old school fan of Baldurs Gate and Icewind dale I need to say that I was positively surprised by this game. Quite complex RPG with high level of freedom and close to perfection combat system is more then my initial expectation. Purely from combat perspective I would have no doubts to put it on my top 2 list (together with Fallout 1&2 turn based system).
Where I definitely see a bit lost potential is story and side quests. Story itself is there, but feels like something which needs to be there to give it a meaning, not really to keep the gamers hooked up. Side quests are overall good. Problem is that you never know how difficult the quest is (comparing to your current level). Imagine that you pick a quest and after couple of hours you will simply find out that your party is simply not strong enough to finish the quest.
My recommendation to really enjoy this game is to play it with the help of good walkthrough. You will still have a freedom of choice and you will also enjoy quite difficult fights without the need to drop the quest due to low level of your party.
