Pretensious, overreaching.

Word limit = butchered review. + - Some of the dialogue makes you reflect on your own life/thoughts. -"Different" enough to be worth a try. - "Detective part" = at times engaging. - Rarely write reviews = compelled to do so. - - When two steps ahead of the game, I have to wait for the game to "catch up", so that I can proceed with the case. Even on obvious clues. - "Encyclopedic characters" overly explain even basic concepts. Dunning - kruger effect. - Grammar and spelling mistakes in games where the devs clearly are not native english speakers = Excusable. However, when trying to "be clever/learned. Consult a dictionary before an encyclopedia. Bloodpath (bloodbath), "Here face (her)", "Theives" (Savoir faire). Minimum = get skill descriptions right. - Clothing with stats = not new in rpgs, not a "role playing tool", it is a micro managing tool for passing dice rolls.. Argument = Unecessary to chase those "skill checks", "roll with the punches". Counterargument = less xp, "gimped character" If you like the game enough to do multiple playthroughs, lots of gear swapping/save scumming needed to see all the dialogue options. - Too many dice rolls for a game with "unprecedented freedom of choice". Slavery to RNG is not freedom. - Bugs. Equipped a bottle of alcohol once, refrained from drinking it, = rest of the the game my character was holding a bottle in his hand, no matter what I equipped. Tried to punch a character = failed = game froze in continuous animation, multiple examples. Object interaction often means walking back and forth to properly "trigger". - Cringy voice acting on certain "actors". Brain and limbic system especially. - "Hard core",/"nothing is off the table", - F****T crudely and unelegantly cencored in the same dialogue in which C***T is not. Pussyfooting it in the middle. Hardcore racists strangely lacking in racial slurrs. - Claims of character depth, yet often clichê/single minded. - Dialogue often reads like bad poetry/trying to be clever.

Fear & Loathing in Martinaise

Brilliant game, full of vibrant and mind-bendingly clever writing, wonderfully sombre and nostalgic art from the internals of the character, to the portraits of NPCs, and the world around you, all glued to together by esoteric and atmospheric music of British Sea Power. However, not all is glowing with greatness. The game does have a few odd design choices (be sure to have 20 real at the end of day 2), the ambiguous dialogue has some holes where designers forgot to include possible branchings, and sadly the biggest letdown is the story itself, which stumbles in the third act. I have a hunch the devs either started running out of money or time, and simply had to cut things short in order to ship the game. Is it worth money, despite those flaws? Absolutely. Different ways of proceeding with your choices in the world leave enough room for new discoveries on subsequent playthroughs. There's a lot of yakking about art in videogames, and here ladies and gentlemen, is a beast of art, right in front of us, bellowing and braying in it's virile rage.

Play in progress, but the best start

Spent 20 mintues reading through skills and deciding on stats while waiting for the Final Cut update. Figured I could look and start for real when it is up. The game started with an awesome little voice over from the voices in our head before I woke up. Waddled around the room for a minute then died of a heart attack while reaching for my tie less than five minutes from really starting. Great fucking start to an RPG.

The most adult game ever made!!!

If nihilistic philosophers like Emil Cioran or Albert Caraco wrote a game, it would be like this game sure. If you want a life a time experience in a dark, brutal, nihilistic, pessimistic, suicidal, non-sjw, political world, like just ours which consists of class war, and confront your choices, small or big, you can say I wanna fuck you to a woman directly and you'll see the pay off at the end of the game, JUST BUY T IT NOW!

Great game, but... there are some bugs.

Really love how original the game feels thanks to having your "skills" constantly speak to you in dialogue after passing skill checks, as well as the overall story. Though the devs political leanings are very clear when you know about them(Communists are shown as flawed, but well-meaning, even absolute drug-smuggling commie scumbag like Evrart Claire was given redeeming qualities of helping some local people, compared to cartoonishly evil, racist, and sexist fascists, or cartoonishly greedy and poor-hating Ultraliberals, while centrists/moralists are seemingly most criticized of all ideologies given how they are "the establishment" and thoroughly corrupt, also game makes sure to say they killed more people quelling commie revolution than commies did themselves during it if you pay attention to what is said...), but they aren't obnoxious about it like 99% of "progressive" developers nowadays, so I'm willing to overlook that. What I can't overlook are the bugs which shouldn't be around anymore. I was unable to finish a sidequest due to a buoy I was supposed to find simply not appearing where it should be(I checked on line, it should be there, but it wasn't). Also with a simple trick in main menu when starting a new game, it is possible to gain infinite skill points... which apparently is a bug that is around for months already. Furthermore some voice lines play at wrong times and don't match the displayed text. Aside from that however, the game is a very fun and original RPG adventure. And the idea of playing an amnesiac drunken mess of a detective, makes for quite a lot of hilarious dialogue, despite the underlying themes of the story being rather depressing. Overall though, I recommend it.
