Isometric rich novel game

You can play with only your mouse, so kinda ease up and play without putting to much effort in it. BUT it has extremely rich depth of lore and spiderweb that connects everything with eachother, so pay attention and take your time reading it, yes, it is a novel game. ALSO it's a part RNG game, chance is depending on the choices combined with the skills/buffs ingame. So, if you are a skip-skip person that doesn't like reading, then please don't buy it, you need to take your time for this marvel to enjoy it. PROS: -Detective that has lost it's memory, starting newly on this game, you as the player will play "double" detective, while trying to uncover the main protagonist and solving the cases around him. -The world itself and lore about it is to mythical, while you are trying to maintain your logical thinking, there are some things that surpass them. -Every character in this game is an onion, no they don't smell (besides yourself in the game), they are getting interesting the more you delve into them. -Politics and religion are part of this game, and they are chaotically well written. -Unexpected choices in conversations/actions turns the game into amazing experience. -Opening conversations with characters will allow you to hear their voices, to give you a vision. -Changing clothes for buffs, change it often, for better RNG chances. NEUTRAL: -Music is minimal but strong, captures the dark inputs really well and dangers sometimes. BUT can be repetetive at some points. -Skill points are really diverse, gives you even hints in conversation/choices. BUT the RNG is irritating me sometimes. -Time in this game, days pass on, changes some environments/characters, gives you a rush feeling. BUT just take your time... it doesn't. -Currency is really difficult maintain in the first part. BUT later, it just becomes to easy . CONS: -Voice acting doesn't feel powerfull with some characters, feels amateurish. -Loading screens... -No OST to download?

3rd playthrough, time to review

First, I'm uncomfortable with the RPG designation. It's every bit as much adventure game and visual novel as RPG. Second, the game is not for everyone. Virtually no controllable "action", tons of dialog. If you loved Planescape: Torment, you'll probably love Disco Elysium. Otherwise, maybe not? Third, the game richly rewards at least three playthroughs, probably more. Choices matter. I've played as an honest, average cop, a charming, slightly dim brawler, and an anti-social genius. Each time has been radically different, and completely fun. Fourth, best writing, best voice acting in a game, ever. Full stop. Fifth, while it won't run on a potato, it runs flawlessly on an average toaster. (AMD Ryzen 7, Radeon Vega, 8GB ram, eye-candy maxed, an honest 60 FPS) Sixth, this joins the short list of non-strategy games I've spent more than 200 hours with. Baldur's Gate,, Planescape: Torment, Fallout: New Vegas, Skyrim. Seventh, if you are still unsure (really? Is that possible?), DE goes on sale regularly. $40 USD is a hit. Wait six months and it will be $15 or 20. Eighth, (because I like 8, it's a good number, rounded in multiple directions). This game absolutely belongs on "Eight best all time games" lists. It is that good, really. Ninth...are you still here? Go! Buy, play, comment! (or at least Wishlist it for a 50% off sale.) :)

This game is magnificzz.. frozen machine

The only reason I had to remove a star is because of the annoying machine freezes this game causes. Quality assurance should not be optional... That said, the game is an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE! You are a nameless one, on a self-discovery/self-loathing journey, there is a case to solve, lots of quirkiness, factions to join with dubious views on the world, a world that can be strongly affected by beliefs.. if all this rings a bell you are probably a fan of Planescape, and you will probably love this game. The game is not for everybody, there is a lot to read (or listen), and it may be more enjoyable if you are into politics, intellectually stimulating discussions, and are not bothered by extreme non-political-correct. Being a lover of lost causes may also help. You are constantly pushed in both reasonable and crazy directions by the different parts of your damaged brain talking to you and you may find yourself saying things you'd never dare (literally because your brain told you so). It was also able to surprise me several times. My playthrough was only 17h, way less then my usual RPGs, and still it felt completely right this way.

Really worth it

I can't stop wondering whether was I stupid to wait so long to play this game or genius to precious it and leave for later... Three years have passed since the release and my top lifetime games list finally got an update. Quite possible that Disco Elysium has the best writing of them all – it’s extraordinary, deep and bewitching. The game may not suite all kinds of players – you must read a lot, think, analyze, feel – no fancy combat, no hack’n’slash. Nevertheless, it’s really worth it. Finally something different, innovative and exquisitely made at the same time. I wish there were more out of the box games like this one. I keep my fingers crossed for further ZA/UM works!
