Carve your unique path across the city. Explore, manipulate, collect tare, or become a millionaire in an open world unlike anything you've seen before. The city of Revachol is yours for the taking, one small piece at a time. From the streets to the beaches – and beyond.

Hard boiled, hard core. Death, sex, taxes, and disco – nothing is off the table. Revachol is a real place with real challenges. Solve a massive murder investigation, or relax and kick back with sprawling side-cases. The detective decides, the citizens abide.

Deeply impressed

Surreal, whimsical, often thought-provoking, and always engaging. I think the game achieves what it set out to do. This isn't much of a "game" in the traditional sense - I would consider it a visual novel primarily, with RPG elements. There is extremely little combat - there is no "combat system", the rare violent encounters are handled through the dialogue and skill check system. You aren't overcoming foes (unless you choose to rail against the player character's own self-destructive lifestyle itself, I suppose, or coming up with particularly clever repartee by passing a skill check) or being the Chosen Hero (unless you choose to give in to the player character's own delusions). You're a sad, tired, and sick middle-aged man in the midst of a mental breakdown, and everyone can see it as plain as the inflamed, rosacea-ridden nose on your face. The pathos of this creates a heroic image in itself of the player character as he struggles to do the right thing and solve the case... or you can just become a gloriously psychotic mess and stumble your way from fuck-up to fuck-up and enjoy the results. The skill checks play into the role-playing - failing skill checks regularly is an expected part of the game. Even failed skill checks provide you with funny or expository dialogue. However, over-extending yourself can lead to failed skill checks physically damaging you through stress or injury - you still need to be wise about which checks you feel like attempting. The writing is very enjoyable, and the characters are full of life and interesting. The quality of the English used, considering this is from an Estonian studio, is excellent and matches the command of a native speaker, aside from rare very minor proof-reading issues (switched letters, typos, etc.). I could ramble on for a long while, but suffice it to say I would strongly recommend this game if you're looking for something different in an RPG. Highly unique and unfailingly interesting, if nothing else.

Feels like a classic. Extraordinary RPG

Title says all - Feels like a classic. Unique and engaging RPG experience, bundling extraordinary atmosphere, humour and even philosophy, with pen and paper levels of versatility. Caveats - I bought this on Steam rather than GOG (sorry!) and I have not yet finished the game (too much replayability, and I do like to try out all the angles). It is difficult to describe just how engaging the makers' RPG system is - you need to try it to get a sense of how much fun it can be to have your own skills talking to you and even trying to coax you into certain courses of action! In addition to this there is also the unique concept of the thought cabinet, which allows you to internalise ideas relating to the setting's cop, pop and philosophical cultures, often with mixed and rather clever effects I admit, for the price, I would prefer the story to be (even) longer, with more maps, but I'm glad I took the plunge. I've spent less time on many similarly priced titles which I felt were worth their price-tag. Totally worth supporting. I'm also hoping for more - the makers' deep but adaptable RPG system leaves enormous scope for development within this setting, as well as potentially many others. If you can get this on sale, it's a steal.

Unique storytelling and dice

Disco Elysium is a very original game combining adventure and role-playing with one of the best writing I've come across since the Witcher series. Disco Elysium takes places in a dystopian future in a city called Revachol. All the characters starting with the amnesiac protagonist Harry (or was it Harrier?) really come alive. The background of the world and warring factions and ideals are slowly (and deliciously) layered on to create one of the best games. It is a complex, sophisticated world out there and the game design encourages to interact with everyone and every object, keep your mind open. Nothing is it seems in the war ravaged city of Revachol and our hero needs to make friends with the unlikeliest of characters to solve the case. Very highly recommended and worth the price if you are looking for something unique, has great writing, art, music, voice acting, questionable clothing styles that increases (and decreases) skills and lots of dice rolls that determine the outcome of every event.
