TBS well done part 1
With over 1000 hours played over the years, I can tell you it is one of the best games of its genre. A. Sure thing, beginners start with the Empire, as it is easier to understand. Tank/fighter, a mage, an archer and healer, the 4 main roles of the RPG rolled into a TBS experience. But then there is the Warlord... which class suits best for your race and style of play? Mage Lord? Warrior Lord? or Guildmaster? As I tried many variations, I ended using Mage Lord for Empire. More spells, cheaper spell research, and my army can handle itself quite good because of the healer. But when I played Demons... I discovered something, that can aplly even to Empire. B. Demons (or Legions of the Damned) are not great to play as a Mage Lord, but as a Warrior Lord, as this lord type allows regeneration between turns. No healer, powerful tanks/fighters, strange units, mage-or-debuff. Or... both !! Sure thing, the Duke is a strong leader, but he needs a mage. But you can still use the Archbishop, while playing Warrior Lord, and thus your general/hero is a powerful mage. You can even give him more leadership, so that he can hire big units, like 2 Overlords, or 2 Fiends, or even 2 Onyx Gargoyles. So now you solved the mage and the fighters, or the strange archers, but what else? DEBUFF -- the Succubus, the petrifier, the one that allows you to take damage maybe only once every fight, thus reducing the damage taken, and next turn you can attack, attack, attack !! And thus a new type of play for the Empire is born too, Warrior Lord+ Archmage general+ 2 Titans+1 healer !! Yes, it was the Demons that showed me the way!! Oh, almost forgot! Use the Doppelgangers and have multiple Uthers before the Succubus becomes available! -----part 2 to follow, about the other races
