disappointment
I came back to the game after 25 years. It is extremely difficult to get good items. It is not what it used tobe

Originally developed by Synergistic Software and released in 1997, Hellfire was not an official Blizzard product and did not carry Blizzard’s endorsement or label. Despite that, in response to Diablo players who have expressed a desire to experience the content, Blizzard has given the OK for it to be included as a free add-on with Diablo purchases on GOG.COM.
Hellfire offers a non-canonical single-player storyline where players must defeat a powerful demon named Na-Krul who is threatening Tristram. The expansion also adds a Monk class, new weapons and items, new missions, locations, dungeons, and enemies. Hellfire will be accessible while launching the original Diablo.
Battle.net® multiplayer requires you to configure the Router and Firewall Ports, details can be found here.

A debilitatingly duff game.
As a young kid in and around 1997 – the year Diablo released to a great hype – I've immersed myself in the rich, imaginative depths of such boundary-pushing games as Fallout, System Shock or Thief: the Dark Project. Over two decades later I've decided to give Diablo – a game appeal of which I could never quite grasp – an overdue go, discover for myself what the hype was all about. While Fallout and the rest of them remain mostly just as interesting and deep an experiences all those years later, I can confirm Diablo is a definition of a torturous grind, its entire depth down to clicking the same mouse button over and over upon the never-ending hordes of enemies and piles of gold that spill out of them. Hack enemy (mouse click), move to the next one (mouse click), collect gold (mouse click) go buy a bigger sword (mouse click), rinse repeat till a month later you presumably arrive at the big boy demon. When you do, make sure to mouse-click on it. Mind-numbing experience. On the other hand, credits need giving where due – music and atmosphere is actually pretty good.

Waste of money, but still love the game
Battle net is not usable because of UDP port issue. HD is clunky, teleport+kill succubus with warrior is not as easy as it used to be... I played this game for 5 years, still have one of the best chars in the world, but... I am not 15 any more and I wish I spent the money on beer instead :( Still, Diablo 1 rulez!

The beginning of soulsike genre
The best isometric action point and click game ever made. It has the eerie feeling and everything a soulsike game needs.

Disappointing... Get Diablo2, instead
"...authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service." "...a bit more modern, Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game tuned for today’s gaming PCs, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, a host of bug fixes and high-resolution support via aspect ratio-correct upscaling." Disappointing... "For those wanting something a bit more modern..." "...an updated version of the game tuned for today’s gaming PCs..." "...which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility..." "...a host of bug fixes..." "...and high-resolution support via aspect ratio-correct upscaling..." Not by a long shot. The resolution is... MAYBE 800x600 (like Diablo2), but looks more like 640x480. - The Graphics and objects don't scale to 1080p. - The camera is still very close. - The HUD is gigantic, not scaled to the 'high-resolution'. - Framerate is horrible. - Battle.net is disabled for the 'upgraded' version, and network play is limited to Direct-IP or Local Area Network (via IPX -Really, who has drivers loaded for that?!) - Unless you play the 'original version' you're playing a castrated 'upgraded version', which didn't provide me any benefits over the original. - No wide-screen support. - Anti-aliasing, Anisotropic filtering (don't appear to work worth a darn). For a 22 game that's they're charging $10, I would've thought at least a couple of the claimed improvements would be... actual improvements. Using their in-game video settings options, I specifically set the in-game resolution to 640x480, and no anti-aliasing, no anisotropic filtering, and then set them up to max for my system ( 3840x1080, 60Hz, MSAA 8x, AF 16x ) and there was no discernable differences in the quality of the game's visual appearance (with a LOT of black space on either side).
