Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition

Let me preface with this, this game should not have been sold in this state, the "seal of quality" of GOG is a joke on this game. With that said, if you want to play the game on GOG you have to do mostly the same step you would on Steam. I'll list them down here for you (mind you this is taken from the pcgaming wiki and slightly rearranged with the steps i used): 1. the game is drm free so you can skip the unpack, just open the DevilMayCry4SpecialEdition.exe in an HeX editor (i used this one: https ://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/ ) 2. Click on Search, followed by Go to, or use Ctrl+G to open the relevant address tool and search 6790E7 (hex mode) or 6787303 (decimal mode) 3. The following hex values should be visible at the location: 80 02 00 00 4. Replace the hex values with the current resolution that matches the user's monitor: 00 05 00 00 for 1280xAny and above. 50 05 00 00 for 1360xAny and above. A0 05 00 00 for 1440xAny and above. 40 06 00 00 for 1600xAny and above. 80 07 00 00 for 1920xAny and above. 00 0A 00 00 for 2560xAny and above. 00 0F 00 00 for 3840xAny and above. 00 14 00 00 for 5120xAny and above. 00 1E 00 00 for 7680xAny and above. 00 3C 00 00 for 15360xAny and above. 5. Save the changes on the HeX editor. The game should launch properly again. 6. head to %LOCALAPPDATA%\CAPCOM\DEVILMAYCRY4SPECIALEDITION (use win+r) 7. Open config.ini using Notepad and look for Resolution in [DISPLAY] section and change the value to your current resolution (e.g. Resolution=2560*1440) 8. save and you're good to go, you can change most of the other settings in game, such as the Hertz of the monitor and the max Fps with all that said, shame on GOG for selling broken stuff. if i wanted this game still broken i would have bought it on Steam or on one of the key resellers for much, much cheaper. While I think it's nice that DMC IV SE is now available on GOG and DRM-Free, it still suffers from the same issues that plague the Steam Release. The main being that the game crashes before it can even start. The game itself is still fun and having multiple different characters to choose from and play the story through but the technical issues are what's keeping it from being enjoyable. Hopefully in time GOG will release a fix for this issue but for now, I'm gonna have to give it a two star rating but will change it once these issues are fixed, if they ever do.

As a Windows 10 user, I was happy to play the game again but after installation the game won't start. This is embarrassing because GOG advertises the game as being specifically for Windows 10/11 users.

I was excited to see Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition finally released DRM-free on GOG, but unfortunately, the game won’t even start on Windows 11. It suffers from the exact same issue as the Steam version, which has been widely reported by the community for years. I’m genuinely baffled that neither Capcom nor GOG took the time to patch or at least address these problems before releasing it under the “Good Old Games” banner (a label that usually means some care was taken to ensure older titles run smoothly on modern systems). Given that this game is now part of GOG’s preservation efforts, I expected better. I’ll hold off on requesting a refund for now, as I’m hopeful that GOG will take note of the growing number of reviews pointing out these issues and eventually release a fix. Until then, it’s sadly unplayable.
