Not as good as previous game

So basically there are a lot of awful uncomfortable things. No, not the animations. Mainly it is: Too long time to transfer from one half of a city to another. And you will do it A LOT cause quests demand it. One time I get quest to go back to one part of the city right after this looooong subway trip. And also once similar situation was right after I waited ton of time to gown down the elevator. Also you don't really need whole THREE stations for one of the halves. Half of main dialogs skippable, half - not. And you need to listen to a half of it again if you wish to replay it. Too much lootable objects. This game is tiny in comparison, but it wastes your time for no good reason too much for my taste. It just created...wrong somehow, there are other stuff that are uncomfortable, but they are small. And yet they are many. *** Other than all of that the game is..ok, nothing special

Great sequel, almost unplayable...

Great sequel, almost unplayable thanks to numerous bugs. I don't know what the problem is, nobody seems to have solid answers, but this game will crash, get stuck and generally make your experience painful throughout, regardless of your hardware or settings. Now, I want to love this game. The actual gameplay is fanatastic, more of Human Revolution but just better in every way. However, I have had numerous crashes seemingly out-of-nowhere. It's gotten stuck in loading screens and perhaps the most annoying of all, no matter what I do, I seem to get stuck on every god damned stair, lip, edge, elevated platoform in the game. I have died several times because I couldn't get over a tiny little piece of flooring, was forced to jump and made too much noise. I want so desperately to love this game because the story, world, characters and gameplay are fantastic for me, I'll likely even finish it fully. However, I cannoy recommend this game to anyone who isn't commited to it including the bugs. It is infuriating. It's not my hardware (AMD 5950X, RTX 3090, 64GB RAM), no other game has done this. This game just appears to be a hot mess. If you're a die-hard Deus Ex fan, or even just a fan of this style of game and it's on sale, buy it. Otherwise, I'd stay away. It's just not worth the time taken from your life in frustration when you have to reload the game several times just to get past the intro cutscenes since they can cause the game to crash.

Is this game too much for 5 years later?

I kinda got the general impression from other people that this game was kind of a letdown compared to Human Revolution, but I really don't see it that way, and I started playing this shortly after I finished Human Revolution. I think both games were interesting and fun in their own way, and you should play this one. Note: if you've got lots of processor cores, open the launcher, then open task manager, and set CPU affinity to cores 0-7. That solved the crash on loading screen problem, that was the only technical issue I had. That's all I really care to say about it, other reviews have discussed gameplay and parts of the story in more detail, but something I think worth mentioning now...not that anyone's going to read this, but...is that I don't think they could get away with releasing this game in 2021. Two certain Picus News blurbs would be more controversial than the central theme (common to video games) of resolving problems with (varying amounts of) violence. Then there's the whole divided society based on certain personal choices theme, which they could probably do in 2021, if they had more characters describe augs as a "new breed" or something and got rid of a certain line suggesting otherwise. And then there's the theme of "don't trust the institutions" common to all Deus Ex games. All of these would cause more controversy now than 5 years ago. Without these things though, the story wouldn't be what it is, and I hope that more games will still be able to use them in the future without requiring more courage and sacrifice than the writers of this game needed at the time. Perhaps they could go out of their way to say "none of this is analogous to the real world, and something is wrong with you if you can relate anything to anything", but the repeatability is what makes the game's story interesting. Or maybe I'm just thinking too much.

Sorely Dissappointed

I was very much looking forward to playing this game as I really enjoyed DE:HR. However, there is a fatal flaw in it and that is poor performance as well as bugs even on my higher end system. Running a rtx 2060 and i7 9th gen, the game performs very poorly at 1080p with MSAA turned on to any level other than off. Whats more, there is a strange bug that prevents audio from playing during cinematic cut scenes. Annoyingly, this seems to be tied to MSAA implementation as audio plays according to usual when MSAA is set to 8X but then obviously performance tanks to a pretty slideshow. Audio is also entirely broken when using DX11 and no sound plays other then the opening theme - I have checked and triple checked my audio settings before anyone thinks that that may solve the issue. There are many reports of this on the web... buyer beware and shame on SE/Nixxes for selling this broken port and not patching anything even after 6 years.

Mouse control is a mess

A completely regret buying this. I had read that the mouse issues were overinflated or had been fixed, but no. If you put the mouse sensitivity to 0 and ramp up the DPI on your mouse it is tolerable on weapons without a scope / zoom. However it is still a total mess on anything with a zoom. I have no idea how this is such an issue as I thought this was largely just updated Human Revolution tech, but I guess not. I can't recommend this game unless you want to play it with a controller, which it was clearly designed for.
