Deus Ex: Revision a mod which drastically overhauls the FPS/RPG masterpiece while preserving its greatness, is now available for FREE on GOG.com!

The year is 2052 and the world is a dangerous and chaotic place. Terrorists operate openly - killing thousands; drugs, disease and pollution kill even more. The world's economies are close to collapse and the gap between the insanely wealthy and the desperately poor grows ever wider. Worst of all, an ages old conspiracy bent on world domination has decided that the time is right to emerge from the shadows and take control.

Key Features:

  • Real role-playing from an immersive 3D, first-person perspective. The game includes action, character interaction and problem solving.
  • Realistic, recognizable locations. Many of the locations are built from actual blueprints of real places set in a near future scenario.
  • A game filled with people rather than monsters. This creates empathy with the game characters and enhances the realism of the game world.
  • Rich character development systems: Skills, augmentations, weapon and item selections and multiple solutions to problems ensure that no two players will end the game with similar characters.
  • Multiple solutions to problems and character development choices ensure a varied game experience. Talk, fight or use skills to get past obstacles as the game adapts itself to your style of play.
  • Strong storyline: Built on "real" conspiracy theories, current events and expected advancements in technology. If it's in the game, someone, somewhere believes

i m not sure what to say

This game is like dishonored but 20 years earlier with topics so up to date with modern time game made me feel like i would be living in some bad ending alternative world xD and no, not because it was immersive, but because in Deus Ex i had more control over course of the world than in reality, it might be little bit hard to explain i love every second of it game have most optimal way to play! said way is ultra hard to find and due to versality of methods it can be different for each person i love minimal action, where i nicely ask everything around me to solve my problems start the game with Advanced computers and just make noises and run around enemies to lure them to immortal friend or deadly robot/turret Explode locks with TnT and disarm most advanced security systems with some random boxes xD you can humiliate lockpicking and electrical on every map xD You can invest all upgrades into pistol and make it function like you would be master gunner when all your skill ware invested elsewhere A lot of people shit on swimming skill, but take a loot at number of water-related sections of the map, they allow to skip most of the danger or even find something nice You can tryhard your way for this fun stuffs, but Trained level in swimming is pretty cheap Wanna unlock the chest? you can invest in lockpick like a virgin, but you can also use your silenced sniper rifle with master level skill and instantly pop the lock xD Sure you can use explosive, but by the time when you be master in rifles, you should be tired of it Rifle skill allow you to use 3 different weapons with tons of joy Assault Shotgun - good weapon, monstrous damage to many guys, low range Sniper rifle - cookie clicker experience Assault rifle - 0 damage garbage, you must have master level to make it feel strong i paid for it 0.9$ and easily got 100 hours already, i love this game, but its not my fav from all the games, its just like approaching top 10

Nears more "out of the box" support

Great game, however GOG should really include more information on running it on modern systems, if not implementing some of the display driver fixes themselves. To new players it is not obvious that the extreme darkness on a modern computer is NOT how the game is supposed to appear.

My personal best game ever

Deus Ex crosses the line between rpg and fps in an awesome way. While the core gameplay is that of a very open-ended shooter, it also has the complexity and depth of an rpg. A skill system allows for improved weapon handling, improval of different methods of interaction with the world, like diving or lockpicking or allowing new ones like hacking. Parallel to the skill system there is also an augmentation system that grants you different superpowers like turning invisible, extremely improved movement speed and jumping height, damage resistance or detatching a spy drone with an integrated emp blast (!) from your head. Crysis certainly took at least some inspiration from this game. The level design is outstanding in its divesity and realism and offers dozens of ways to complete a target. The graphics have(in my opinion) aged pretty well and still deliver the same great atmosphere. The setting is(again, in my opinion) very thrilling and the story stays interresting until the very end. This game is a must have for almost every gamer. PS: The second sequel Deus Ex: Human Revolution still carries the spirit, but it can't be compared to the original.

10/10 Game of the Century

You can have one of the greatest games at under a buck. Grab this and the GMDX mod to make the game even better. Alot of games try to be like Deus Ex, including it's sequels. But you cannot improve upon perfection.

Best game ever made.

I disagree with the review that was voted as most helpful review. This game was not published by Square Enix, it was created by Ion Storm, designed by the ingenious Warren Spector, published by EA. Square Enix only came afterward to partner with EA, and did some work with the third installment 'Human Revolution', which I'm not fond of because the character in that game takes in too much emo and wannabe bad ass characteristic as a way to appeal to broader audiences. The JC Denton character in this original game is much cooler and down to earth. Even though as a player you get to make the choices to progress to the story, the main character always seems to be conscious of the choices. The story is linear with multiple endings, but the game is designed to allow you to complete objectives in several different ways. To get the most out of this game you have to challenge yourself and explore. I have replayed it close to 10times, every time I found out something new or discover something hidden. For example, to get a destination, you have multiple paths to get there and each path have different challenges, the path you choose can be depended on your skills. Either go in the main path directly and have a big gun fight with the enemies soldiers and robots, or go through the sewer and deal with traps and security systems if you're good with lockpicking and hacking, or go through the back street and face automatic turrets and deal with them using explosives, or go through the roof and try to avoid snipers. If you're really good, you can sneak through without killing anyone. What keeps you interested aside from the great story is the way the game awards you. If you challenge yourself and search an unexpected place or jump to a dangerous height, you might find useful hidden items and get rewarded with skill points, which can be used to upgrade your abilities. Later on you get to augment your body for super abilities, some of them are very fun to use. Some really cool augmentation includes jumping to and from impossible heights, using camera controlled aerial device to deliver EMP shock, see through walls, detect and detonate incoming missiles. The game make it so that you cannot install all augmentation in a single game and you'll have to replay to try different ones. I must say the physic of this game does not age so well, but should not ruin the experience. It uses the Unreal engine so movements aren't so smooth at times and enemies sometimes have delays in their response which player can exploit. The main characters have good voice acting, but the rest of NPCs can have atrocious voice acting, but this is not a bad thing because its so bad that its good and humorous 'most' of the time. Overall, I love this game for the memorable characters, storyline, versatile gameplay and excellent soundtrack. I recommend playing on realistic mode where you'll usually die from 1 or 2 hit. I find normal mode not very realistic since you can take too many hits before dying.
