I played my first playthrough in 2021, so 8 years after the game came out.
For most of it, I thought it was decent.
Not great, not bad by any means. Decent.
A 3.5, maybe?
Predictible story beats, strange leaps in the world progression, but satisfying overall.
And then, there is the boat.
I don't like it when games take your stuff away. All that stuff you've been saving for when the time is right? Forget it. It's irritating, but whatever.
But resetting character progress and compensating with next to nothing?
What were they thinking?
The game is basically saying "you've done too much side content; enjoy losing most of your progress on your character, bye." Who thought this was a good idea?
LIKE WHO?
(To get more technical: you can buy bonus levels, so to speak, in hospitals. The amount you can buy up to that point is basically what the games gives back. Like, WTF? Seriously, who does that?)
...has terrible controls. The control scheme in this game is trash. No button mapping, awkward controls.
Mankind Divided had input lag and THIS Deus game has SET controls. What is wrong with Square Enix and why don't they allow flexibility in their games or make us of helpful updates?
LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!
The Good
I liked that you could upgrade your abilities.
I think the story was alright.
There were multiple paths that you could take to go into places.
You can save whenever you want.
The Bad
There was only 1 animation used throughout the entire game, when you talk to woman characters, including bosses.
The hacking minigame gets boring and repetitive fast. And when it says 15% to be detected, it’s lying. For some hacks that I did, it consistently triggered the alarm even though it said 15%. The thing is, I have hacked in the game so many times, that when it used to say 30% or 50%, I had a better chance of not setting of the alarm.
And when you had to hack stuff that was mandatory to pregoress the story, the 15% detection seemed to work. It’s like, when it’s crucial to the story, the let you do it properly but when you are just hacking hard stuff and you have the detection at 15%, because of all your upgrades, the game cheats and that’s bullshit.
The game was too long.
They reused a ton of assets so levels look like places you visited before. Hong kong radios have that same English conspiracy guy talking. Books and text on stuff are in English.
The commentary was done bad. You can’t see where it is, you just have to walk and hope you hear a sound or an icon to begin listening to it. And when you commentary on, it will go on through cutscenes. So if characters in the game were talking, the commentary will be on top of it and you’ll be hearing both of them at the same time. The commentary was a bad job.
Conclusion
At first when I was playing the game, I thought it was really good, but the more I played, the more I realized that the game actually wasn’t very good. It was mediocre. So, the game was not entirely bad but not good. It’s living off the name and ip of the game made before it and the game was made by entirely new and different people. I bought all the new deus ex games and now I’m left here thinking I wasted my money.
