You're in charge of a team of 6 mercenaries and must find a way to complete your missions, be it infiltrating an enemy fortress, saving a team member or escaping an ambush... Combine the different skills of your 6 heroes to lead them to victory.
El Paso, a typical Wild West town in the southwestern United States near the Mexican border. It is the year 1881. For the last few months, the trains belonging to the famous railroad company, Twinnings & Co have been the target of a whole series of hold-ups and ambushes. The management of the company has decided enough is enough and they have to put an end to the raids. It has offered a reward of $15,000 for anyone who captures the leader of the gang responsible.
But no one in and around El Paso has the courage to take on the might of the bandidos, so the outlaws just keep on robbing train after train. Even the local Marshal is keeping well out of it.
It’s only when a stranger rides into town that things start to change. Bounty hunter John Cooper pays a visit to the local Twinnings & Co manager offering to end the railroad company’s problems once and for all. He gathers together a gang of his old partners and declares war on the bandidos. But during his pursuit, which will take him through half of the southwestern United States, Cooper soon discovers that on this mission nothing is quite what it seems...

Superb Game That Will Never Grow Old
I am now playing this game for the 5th time and since thats the no. of times I have completely played this game since 2003. This is by far 1 of the greatest first person strategy game ever.

An exercise in frustration
After trying to play desperadoes for the first time I made it to mission 6 and then gave up. Desperadoes is an stealth infantry tactical combat game where your small fragile squad is pitted against a map full of enemies and you have to carefully make your way past them or incapacitate them. That's a description that would require patience in a modern game. Take away all the progress that's been made in game design in the last fifteen years and add in an interface that's not great even for 2001 and you end up with a game that it's easy to get fed up with. After getting to the sixth mission and being presented with a map packed with more enemies than ever before I made a couple of initial attempts and then soon gave it up as not worth the frustration. From what I've seen of the story it seems like it still holds some interest but the gameplay has not aged well. One for enthusiasts and nostalgia only.

Technical problems with this release
Severe technical problems. Game runs at FPS near zero. Fixes suggested by users work with variable degree of success. Practically unplayable.

Still great
After all these years, it's still a great game and wit the new patch i was able to play through with no technical issues. It's not for the impatient audience or casual gamers because it has no modern features like extended tutorials or auto heal and it's not taking you by hand showing how to solve the problem. You have to experiment and find a way that work for you. There is no one right way to finish the mission and that makes this game so great and playable for many times. When the game first came out i found it very hard. But now, i wish there where more games like this. I enjoyed it so much.
