For fans only

This DLC offers some back story for Deserts of Kharak and game development material. Sadly, this isn't integrated with the game in any way but comes as a separate executable that doesn't even create a shortcut in the start menu - need to find it in the game directory. I think this extra content would have played a much better role if it was integrated with the game, say as an in-game encyclopedia or something. As a separate application it isn't very engaging. I guess that if you're a great fan of Deserts of Kharak you can get this. Otherwise it's probably not worth it.

Sloppy, only buy to support devs

As a big Homeworld fan I was really excited by this, and there is some really good content here. However it tends to lacks polish in comparison to the main product and feels like an afterthought not justifying its cost as DLC especially at this price. For instance, you can't access it from the game, there's no way to change the graphics settings so all the textures are quite low quality (really?), the line spacing is a bit too small so whilst it doesn't affect readability it is noticeable and irritating. Also there's not that much content that doesn't just belong in the manual e.g. fairly brief unit descriptions. If it went into more fan-specific material like technical specs etc. then that would make more sense. To be fair there are some nice touches that build the lore but the whole thing just feels like mostly a rushed after thought. As a hardcore fan I'm disappointed...

Nice useful guide

It seems a lot of work was done making this program. It fleshes out the story and provides some good background to the story. The interface is nice and urges you to explore the content. The only complaint that i have is that navigating backwards is sometimes incoherent.

For anyone else who might struggle, it takes 30 secs to find your drive and where you installed the game\Homeworld Deserts of Kharak\TechnicalManual in there is an app "DoK_Manual" click this.... there you go. guide is great but shouldnt have been paid dlc. i got it for lie 40p or something in a sale

Excellent expansion to the lore

I agree that it is for fans only, but I am the sort that read the lore to HW, HW:C, and HW2 before even booting up the game. To me this is on the level of a great sci-fi novel. This Expedition Guide only further fleshes it out and syncs perfectly with the original lore. Better yet, they made the Somtaaw canon! That is a great thing for me.
