Descent 3 + Mercenary

This game is great. The levels are varied and interesting, and there's an excellent blend of puzzle solving and blowing things up. The Minimum system requirements are a bit high, I think; I played this on an old HP Pavillion running at 733 MHz with an integrated graphics and 256 MB of RAM card and it still looked fine.

I was addicted to Descent 2. I played it nonstop. But when I got D3, I ddn't find the same addicting gameplay. Granted: It's an excellent game! But it felt a bit sluggish at times and the outside 'gimmick' didn't really excite. Still, it's a STEAL at this price!

It is still a great game considering the date on which it was developed. In actual days you can play it at full resolution with maximum detail in simple GPUs as those of Intel (always better on nVidia and ATI :) ). It is amazing the level it's optimized.

I loved Descent and Descent 2 more than any other FPS... until this one. The AI, environments and weapon/ship selections all improve upon an already great idea. If you didn't like the first games, you may not enjoy this one too much; but if you did, you have to get this one.

I like the visuals and at it's core it's still a Descent game that mostly shares the gameplay style of it's predecessors but the controls and perhaps also the 3d doesn't port over that well. It's generally smooth but with stutter especially when turning and it can make aiming awkward and this affects the gameplay adversely. It's not enough to make it unplayable hence the 3/5 but it prevents it from scoring higher. If it could be entirely smoothed out i'd probably give it 5 stars.
