Don't keep this feeling of nausea to yourself, go Head-to-Head with 2-player modem support or 8-player network and Tournament Mode. Brace yourself for the world of Descent... if you can handle it. Get them before they get you...
Dynamic gameplay that is hard to match even by today’s standards
A great musical score composed by artists such as Type O Negative and Skinny Puppy
Descent was a mind blowing redesign of the shooter game. But Descent 2 was even more exciting and addictive! Pure 360 degree freedom on all six axis! It's an insane rush to mow down hoards of killer robots while more hoards of killer robots are shooting at your from above, below and directions you never thought of.
A must have for every shooter fan!
I remember playing an old Shareware version of Descent years and years ago. At the time, I hadn't played many games of the sort (save for a bit of Doom here or there), and I remember being floored by the concept of being free from gravity. As time went on, I purchased the full version of Descent, its sequel, and the tragically under-appreciated Descent 3. Since then, my attention has turned to other more modern games, but once the GOG.com beta opened, I figured exercising my nostalgia was a worthwhile investment. Boy, was it ever. It's stunning how I can return to a thirteen-year-old game and still be shocked at the experience it provides. It certainly shows its age--it's not really that pleasant to look at--but I'm struck by how much I missed having six degrees of freedom. No other game that I've played in recent memory feels so liberating. In video games anymore, we're tethered to the ground and pushed through linear hallways to get where we're going. Being able to fly anywhere, running circles around my enemies while the air fills with lasers and missiles is nothing short of a breath of fresh air. If you didn't grow up with this game like I did, or even if you have and you've just forgotten about it, you owe it to yourself to play it. I guarantee that you will not experience anything else like it.
... and that's - of course - Descent III :-)
I'll keep those boxes on an altar for ever on. The interesting thing is that there are open source projects that let you play D1 and D2 on fresh game engines a lot faster and better than the original. See http://d1x.warpcore.org/ - http://icculus.org/d2x/ - http://www.descent2.de/d2x.html - http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/.
You still need the original data files, of course ... which is where GOG comes in :)
First two part of one of the best FPS games series ever created. Freedom of movement with 3d enemies and great variety of upgradable weapons makes this title a must have for all fans of a genre. Also Descent 2 introduce a great soundtrack that will never get old! Just try it and, believe me, its worth it!
