Descent 2

Brilliant game. I still remember nearly falling out of my chair at least a few dozen times. Or even just the feeling of complete nausea coupled with toppling over backwards after pulling the mouse back too fast. Well thought out gameplay, fast pace.

Open Source (see d1x/d2x homepage)! Works with d2x on linux, level editor is perfect, works perfectly on wine, I spend lots of time creating levels, drawback: The enemies are so stupid.

This was a game changing game (pardon the pun). This game is what got me hooked for many nights after I'd had enough of Doom. The AI was superb and the no-way-is-up zero gravity was amazingly freeing and gave me that weird feeling in my stomach I was upside down, but then the lighting changed as I flew along and suddenly I wasn't plunging down but the world turned with me. And the soundtrack for both games was phenomenally good at mood setting. That said, it is a bit dated and looks pixelated these days. Which is why you need to head over to the Kickstarter campaign to support the reboot of this franchise! Search for Descent on Kickstarter and support the developers!
