As he plunges into the ocean, he has no idea that what he’ll uncover will not only threaten the lives of his crew, but his own sanity.

Awesome combination of a few genres. Different than a lot of metroidvanias I've played but super innovative. Great story and theme. One of my top indie picks of this year.
If you liked the 365 degree gameplay of Aquaria, this one is for you. It is a retro-pixel art game with a small dev team. Difficulty is low to average for an MV. The Lovecraftian story is probably my favorite so far this year and maybe second only to Blasphemous in terms of it's storytelling. The music is haunting but gets you moving. The exploration is top notch and has some seriously frightening parts for being a 2D experience. The Sub upgrades work extremely well for the environment, especially the movement upgrades translated to a non-platforming Metroidvania. I honestly can't recommend it enough, it is truly a unique experience and one hell of a game.
