Things were going well for Azra, the sheltered Royal Librarian. There were books to sort, dust, and put away, important royal documents to transcribe. All this was swept away by the deadly plague that devastated the Kingdom of Ash. The plague killed quickly, so quickly that no one has the time to bury the dead, instead they are thrown, without ceremony, into the Pit. Azra, infected with the plague, is cast into the Pit. Soon, she finds herself in the Half-Way World, the place between life and death and learns of her true power--that of being able to bring anyone into the Half-Way World with her. Now, she must traverse the Pit in the hopes of finding the cause of the plague and must fight to not only save herself but the Kingdom as well.

this game offers much fun and many hours of game play. highly recommendable for those that like something challenging and prefer strategic thinking. also worth mentioning - great atmosphere and soundtrack!
Right now a triumphant song goes through my speakers, because I've finished the game and end credits are rolling. I've always liked tower defence games, but never played many, so I can't make any good comparisons. Is this one better than most of them, is this on of the best examples? I can't tell, but I can safely say that those 20+ hours that took me to finish it (I've played many battles again on higher difficulty to get more rewards and experience, I suppose basic game is something under 10 hours) were mostly filled with joy. The gameplay is solid, rpg elements work well, game looks decent, story while simple is enjoyable, and I really liked characters. Of course being me, I couldn't resist giving them silly or insulting names, so had you seen my game, you would think it's full of profanity shouting madmans.
If I shoud criticise something, it would probably be music, because with few exceptions, it's not very memorable and I actually turned it off after a while, but turned back on in final fight.
Closing words: A simple as this game looks, I kept playing and probably had more fun that I had previous year with most of the AAA titles that I've played. Finished it in two days, because I just had to keep playing.
I've played a few tower defense games here and there but generally have found them not very fun. It all changed with Defender's Quest. This is the most addicting fun I've had in awhile. The gameplay is very easy to learn but you'll also find that your strategy will change with almost every level. I recently finished the main game and have started on the new game + mode (which adds a ton of new things to do) and I can't wait to sink another 50 hours into this game. The writing is excellent with a story that is unique and full of humor. You will actually care about the characters by the end of the game, too. The music is also really well done and characteristic of a fantasy setting. If you have a powerful enough laptop, I can't recommend putting it on your laptop enough for getting in a good 15 minutes while you're waiting for something.
This is the second game I've come across that's actually a flash game (swf file). I find this a bit of an annoyance as the other flash game I've played shares the same problem: If it gets graphically or logically intensive it requires you to push your CPU to full power to have it run smoothly, it's obvious the level of graphics involved shouldn't require anything close. Since it hides behind a executable rather than a player/plugin you can't lower the quality to speed it up.
The game itself has an interesting and funny story and writing that I enjoy, although it's apparent they need more sprites/positions to help give the characters more life with what they are doing.
