Beneath you floats magnificent, untamed Gallius IV, a terran world newly discovered in this disputed part of the galaxy. Your colony ship is ready, equipped with all the basics you need to settle this planet. The select group of colonists orbiting with you are prepared both to build a strong colony and to defend it to the last stone. Other ships are also scanning the planet's surface, choosing the landing site for their colony. All past allegiances have been cast aside in the fever for this world.
In Deadlock, an intense turn-based strategic simulation, seven races colonize a virgin planet, but only one will survive. Build your province’s structures. Conduct research to advance your race. Devise the perfect strategy of diplomacy, intimidation and warfare. Every decision you make will determine the ultimate fate of your people, your empire, and your survival.
Choose to command the human or one of six other alien races, each with unique strengths, weaknesses, and needs.
Engage in tactical combat with a wide variety of land, air and sea-based military units.
Advanced custom game options and planet generation provide high replayability and depth of play.

Great game lost so many times when i was a kid but you get better when your older and come back for revenge with your improved understanding of Game mechanics.
Thanks very much to bringing this game to the site. I have the cdrom still, but wasn't not interested in going through the hoops to play on my modern (windows 7 64bit) operating systems due to 16bit and sound issues. This version looks as good as I remember. It now sounds even better once I turned on windows xp (SP3) compatibility mode. I think alchemy for the sound blaster users is even helping with the background music popping (though I'm not sure why). I was also able to turn off the graphics limiters to the aero theme and such which were there upon installation. Don't be afraid to tinker with these for your particular setup.
As for the game itself, this is a really accessible turn based strategy. There are 7 unique races all trying to conquer the planet surface through military, city construction or a combination of the two. There are a wealth of difficulty settings for everyone where the difficulty is scaled through map size, number of races and the enemy production rates (turbo-charged anyone?) Your role is truly as a commander/overseer managing building construction, resource (including weapons) production, research, taxes and colonist happiness. The game may not be particularly deep compared to other recognizable titles, but the wit, humor, diversity of races and all aspects of the gameplay are presented well. I would suggest this game to anyone, even if they are not fans of the genre.
Although I played so many TBS games in my life, I never heard about it. I was hesitant to buy and try another one, especially an od one, being afraid to experience one more time the same old known logic. Instead I was happily surpised and charmes by this little jem. Immediate but not easy, straightforward but complete, definitely a masterpiece of its time. This TBS is doubtless to try !
Well maybe not a true classic since, from what I know, this game wasn't that widespread back in the day -- but I could be wrong. Deadlock was the first strategy game I have ever played, back in 1998 or something. Clean interface, a lot of technologies, buildings, units, strategic possibilities -- all packed in a well rounded game, especially for the time. A must have for any strategy game enthusiast. Runs great on modern systems.
