Description
Take control of a settlement of the first modern humans, guide them through the ages in their struggle for survival.

Dawn of Man is a survival/city-builder from the creators of Planetbase.

The game starts in the Stone Age, and takes you up to the Iron Age, spanning more than 10,000 years of human prehistory.

You will have to get your people to survive, expand and evolve, just like our ancestors, facing the challenges that the environment will throw at you.

Hunt

Animals were a vital source of food and resources for ancient humans. Use their meat to feed your people and their skin and bones to make clothing and craft the tools you will need to stay alive.
Confront Mammoths, Woolly Rhinos, Ancient Bison, Megaloceros, Cave Lions and other species that roamed the earth at the time.

Gather

Collect a variety resources from the environment: fruit, berries, water, wood, flint, stone, ores. Use them to prepare food, to make tools and to build structures in your settlement.

Plan for harsh times

Fish is more abundant in spring, berries and fruit can be collected in summer and animals are easier to come by when it's warm.
When winter comes, make sure to have enough non-perishable food and warm clothing in order to survive.

Expand and fortify your settlement

Build more homes and facilities for your people, in order to expand your population.
Construct fortifications and craft weapons, so you are ready for when the inevitable conflict comes.

Research Technologies

Each new discovery will make it easier for your settlement to be able to support larger populations, but will also bring new challenges: increased food demand, morale issues and more frequent raider attacks.

Build Megalithic Structures

Our ancestors were capable of incredible engineering feats: mine massive rocks from the environment, transport them using sledges and construct colossal stone structures.

Control Nature

Unlock farming technologies to grow your own vegetables, so you can feed large amounts of people. Domesticate animals to produce food, resources and provide increased muscle power.

Not bad but has a few flaws

Overall I've enjoyed this prehistoric colony builder. It isn't every day a person can go mammoth hunting, after all. I love the graphics and especially the hunting aspect. Tech discovery adds a nice depth to the gameplay. I also appreciate being able to move at my own pace and not be rushed. The inclusion of a pause button that allows looking around was a good move. There are a few things that could be improved though, and those fall mainly in the AI. If left to their own devices things go fairly willy-nilly in a real hurry. Starting maps are very limited and I don't see where this would have a lot of replay-ability because even trying to change up the research doesn't have any long-term effect.

Overpriced for a 1 dimension game

A city builder of sorts. Repetitive. Once you play it a couple of times, it is finished. Nothing new to do. I quote other reviewers, "little replayability." There are no other cities, or a civilization to be built. The other reviews discuss the content adequately. Dawn of Man has a certain charm. That is all. In comparison, Tropico 3 - is lightyears ahead in humor, & the detail of city building. The developers could have made this into a GAME. Additionally, they might have made a Statement. Instead, they abandoned it. This is - at best - a demo of sorts. Worth about $2.49.

Prehistory simulator

Not only I enjoyed the game but I have learned a lot about prehistory. When your tribe of 50 people who get a meager surplus of food should allocate four strong men to push a megatile for a year, you realize what it should cost to do those prehistoric works. If you like history like I do and you want to see it in action, you will enjoy the game During the game you have a sense of purpose and progress at all times. Yo look for hunt gives you something to do while things are being built. Sometimes you have to decide if it is worth risking men to hunt a woolly rhinoceros or not, and you get happy when you found a yummy and full of skins deer herd. There are many technologies and almost all of them represent a substantial improvement in your settlement. The better technology you have, the more population you can maintain, without any artificial mechanism to limit yourself. The UI is easy and intuitive and the graphics are OK. I like the way research is resolved: You don't have a research shack, but you get the knowledge based on doing things. You receive a point of knowledge for hunting a new type of animal, for collecting your first 100 spikes of center and so on. The game is easy in the sense that there is nothing that cannot be overcome with a little patience and work. A raid can kill four or five villagers and destroy a tower and a section of the wall, but It can't eradicate your rnyitr settlement. That is good for me, I'm not for roguelike games. I see the challenge in the game in trying to achieve the milestones in the shortest possible time and there is room to improve your gameplay in each game. The negative: sometimes you have to wait a while to get the necessary knowledge points to move your settlement to the next level. Also the game lacks replayability because each game is not really much different from the previous ones.

Buggy and way to linear

The ai is so buggy, its annoying. E.g food in the storage, ai starves to death. Send em hunting, it follows a dear across the map, instead of killing one, right next to the base. etc. etc The complete progression also just has the illusion of branches etc. In its core, its completly linear. There is not really any replay value, which is highly! needed in a game of this genre. Cannot recommend. This is at most an early access title with some potential.

Great game, if you can figure out the AI

I think it's an awesome game, and highly underrated. This is not a story or campaign driven game, instead it's a true sandbox managerial city builder If you are okay with micromanaging your villagers you can pause the game and give them each commands then unpause it You are supposed to only have one task per villager if you create more fields and workplaces than your population is capable of supporting it will cause starvation and other problems because the people won't automatically choose the tasks that are most needed. Without proper clothing they can get sick and die, especially in winter, but they need light clothes for the summer too. Once you get domesticated animals they need to be cared for as well fed, milked and when they get old mark them for slaughter, you can even slaughter the village dogs for extra food when they get too old. But I like to wait as long as possible to get as many babies out of the animals as possible If you're having trouble getting the resources you need yourself remember to trade with the trader when they come to town I recommend saving your game as soon as they arrive, if you don't like their inventory simply reload the save and a new inventory will be generated once you see the items you need buy them and as soon as the purchase is made press the space bar to pause the game again so you can use as little time as possible to open the trade menu again this will allow you to make a lot more trades with the trader before their set time in the village runs out and they leave again This can be a life saver if you need clothes food or hay for the animals When trading try not to use raw resources finished products are a better value. Villagers won't eat raw food it has to be cooked even if it's bread they won't eat without a fire to warm it up even if they're starving. Have them gather food in the summer and fall and gather wood and flint and other resources in the winter and spring, ALWAYS harvest crops in fall when they're ready.
