Description
Darksiders II follows the exploits of Death, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, in an action-packed tale that runs parallel to the events in the original Darksiders game. This epic journey propels Death across an expansive gameworld as he tries to redeem his brother, War, the horseman blamed for prematurely starting the Apocalypse in Darksiders.

Like the original Darksiders game before it, the second iteration of the series is primarily a hack ‘n slash adventure. The game takes place across netherworld environments, including "The White city," an outpost where angels live, and "The Eternal Throne," a floating fortress where the Lords of the Dead stand guard over souls that need to be cleansed.

Although Death is the most feared of the Four Horsemen, his physical abilities are very different than his brother, War. Death is far more nimble, and relies on a combination of melee and ranged attacks. In combat Death's primary weapon is his huge iconic scythe, with a wide range of other weapons and usable items that must be gathered as the game progresses. Weapons can be dual-wielded, upgradable armor can be acquired for protection and Death has access to his terrifying and powerful mount, Despair.

Deathinitive Edition Features:

Darksiders 2 with All DLCs included and integrated into the game, offering a total playtime of more than 30 hours (Maker Armor Set, The Abyssal Forge, The Demon Lord Belial, Death Rides, Angel of Death, Deadly Despair, Shadow of Death, Mortis Pack, Rusanov's Axe, Van Der Schmash Hammer, Fletcher's Crow Hammer, Mace Maximus, Argul's Tomb).

Improved Graphic Render Engine for higher visual quality especially in terms of lighting and shadows.

Improved and reworked level, character and environment graphics.

Running in native 1080p resolution

Plays very different from part 1

This is a difficult game to judge as so much depends on personal preferences. The game itself controls all right, graphics and sound are decent enough. However, so much is different from the (fantastic) first Darksiders that chances are you (like me) may not get as much fun out of this second installment. I thus never finished this Death's tale due to issues with how the fights are now handled and slower pacing of the story. While the time required to beat this game is a multitude of part 1, it is bc content is spread thin like too little butter over too much bread due to repetitive fights and backtracking. By the time I reached the second world (each of which takes about as much time to complete as the entire first game), this new strategy (for me) had overstayed its welcome. So, the game is not for everyone and your experience depends on what is more important to you: If you got time to kill and don't mind the backtracking or fighting the same monster types in an enormous yet same-ish environment, this is a decent title that will give you weeks worth of content for the asking price. Chances are, you might be more happy with the content per dollar of this installment than the first, which could be beat in a fraction of the time. However, if you prefer something shorter and more juicy, are in it for story, setting, the characters, and a more streamlined experience, try the first Darksiders instead as this might suit your style of gaming better. Choice is yours!

Great game now, totally worth it.

Works like a charm without any bugs or technical problems. The music is beautiful and the game, both in gameplay and story, is great. If there were anything then new game+ feels really slow due to Death being too powerful it ended up some kinds of a walk for the story instead of battles. 5 stars hands down.

Good game but with problems

This is a good game, the best from the franchise btw, but sadly it has some problems like FPS drop, constant low FPS, low resolution HUD, poor graphics menu and peaks of difficulty. It's a good game, but if you don't want problems in your life don't buy it.

Overlooked Gem

Played the first Darksiders, but never finished it as I got bored by the combat. Darksiders II has much better pacing and motivated me to go through the end. Has a nice flow of puzzles and combat. Happy that I got it on sale - otherwise I would have missed an awesome journey. And: even though I don't enjoy the over-the-top art direction the environments were really impressive and change a lot during the game. I recommend adding reshade though, as the whole thing greatly benefits from some sharpness. Awesome game!

Very cool experience, had no issues

I played this on PC using keyboard and mouse controls and I enjoyed it a great deal. It's a fun action RPG that in my eyes improves on the already great combat and storytelling of the first game. The added open world elements and customizable gear only added to that for me. If you enjoyed the first one, get this. If you haven't played the first one, but you think you might enjoy a game like Zelda (the 3D ones) with more (and better fleshed out) combat and a more mature setting, get this (and the first one). I can't say that I experienced any of the issues (crashes, graphics glitches, control problems) some other reviewers around here mentioned in my playthrough, so this does not seem to be a thing that applies to 100% of players. I also didn't have serious problems with the platforming parts (and I'm not really great at platforming). I'm giving it only 4 out of 5 because I think that in a game with customizable gear that can have a lot of different stats and sometimes special abilities, those stats and effects should be explained ingame in greater detail, to enable me to make an informed decision on what to use when. You can find all the information online if you look for it, but it really should be provided to you by the game, without having to alt-tab.
