Description

From the dawn of creation, THE COUNCIL has maintained the Balance across existence. Carrying out their orders are THE HORSEMEN, Nephilim (powerful beings spawned from the unnatural union of angels and demons) who have pledged themselves to the Council and been granted immense power. However, this power came at a tragic cost: the Horsemen were ordered to use their newfound strength to wipe out the rest of their kind. What followed was a bloody battle on Eden where the Horsemen, obeying the will of the Council, annihilated the Nephilim.

Still reeling from the events on Eden, WAR and STRIFE have been given a new assignment -- LUCIFER, the enigmatic and deceptive demon king, has been plotting to upset the Balance by granting power to master demons throughout Hell. War and Strife must hunt down these masters, gather information, and ultimately fight their way through a tangled, demonic conspiracy that threatens to forever upset the Balance and unravel all of creation.

DARKSIDERS: GENESIS is an action/adventure game that tears its way through hordes of demons, angels, and everything in-between on its way to Hell and back with guns blazing and swords swinging. Genesis gives players their first look at the world of DARKSIDERS before the events of the original game, as well as introduces the horseman STRIFE.

Features:

  • Blast angels and demons as the gunslinging Horseman Strife, playable for the first time
  • Swap between the powerful swordsman War and Strife instantly in frenetic, single-player gameplay
  • Explore the epic world of Darksiders and wreak havoc with a friend in two-player cooperative mode
  • Experience a brand new story campaign that takes place before the original Darksiders, exploring the origin of the Seven Seals
  • Grow in strength and power as you collect items, abilities, weapon enhancements, creature cores and more

Epic!

Another great entry to the Darksiders franchise. It feels like hacknslash game more than arpg but in the good way. Story is ...present. Art and music are simply EPIC. No microtransactions, no DRM just pure game - plain, simple and awesome. Characters are amazing. Strife is unique and amazing same like his broters and sister, im having great fun with him. WAR is here and WAR is the same as ever - very cool and very powerful. Runs smooth and beautiful, no crashes, no stutters.

Not an aRPG.

First of all this is NOT like diablo or it's aRPG kin in spite of the slight aRPG mechanics. It's much closer to a top down brawler (or a twin stick shooter if playing as strife). If you buy it with a "gimme plenty of loot" mindset you are going to be disapointed because creature cores are hardly a replacement for gear. Other than that... This might as well be called Darksiders 4 as It's just yet another take on the same kind of game. So plenty of fighting, a lot of executing and a bit of puzzle solving with a boss near the end. Graphics wise i don't have anything bad to say about the game, it's lively and verdant... as much as crossing the pits of hell can be anyway. The action is great as executions come back after their break in darksiders 3 (I kinda wish they were tied to the core system and slightly limited though, being able to execute anyone and anything gets kinda old, but you do it anyway because it gives you a second or two of iframes an bonus wrath on top of getting rid of an enemy that much sooner) The core progression system (see what i did there?) is tied to slaying monsters that will drop cores you slot into your... not quite skill tree. Those cores can be anything from an insignificant 1% attack damage boost to adding elemental effects to your moves or summoning creatures to fight on your side. There are some problems on the technical side, game seems to microstutter with V-sync on (at least on AMD) but deactivating it seems to fix the issue. It might introduce tearing if you use a non adaptive sync monitor however. What there is too say... if you liked any of the darksiders titles leading up to this game then this is a game for you. The changes were mostly in perspective. What else... the game is 30 USD, has no form of MTX so far. For 30 USD you can't go wrong with this one.

Good game, but technical problems

I like the game, am about halfway through. I don't really like the Metroidvania progression in a game that has separate levels. You have to revisit earlier levels once you get upgrades and I think that is better suited for an open-world game. But others might enjoy it. However, the game has some technical issues: - no native Dualshock controller support. You can work around that with DS4Windows, but you still get XBox button prompts. - the standard Keyboard-layout is set up for US QWERTY keyboards. International customers might run into problems. One example is the '\' key and the only solution I could currently find is to add a QWERTY layout to Windows - Ultrawide support is bad. Instead of more horizontal space, it cuts off the top and bottom part of the screen, which results in a quite zoomed in view. This can make it difficult sometimes to see enemies or ledges. There is an INI-fix, but that gets reset after every cutscene. Also, the Intro-Video, which is rendered in 20:9, is letterboxed into 16:9. This video is then NOT pillarboxed to fit an ultrawide monitor, but fullscreen and is thus vertically squashed.

Big Darksiders fan...

I was skeptical when I first heard about Genesis since it just seemed to pop up out of no where. Then I heard Airship Syndicate was invovled (Joe M.) and I was sold. Didn't read any previews/reviews just preordered it. The original will always be my favorite but I have enjoyed all the entries in the series (2 being my least favorite). Being able to play as War is a big plus for me. I'm a big Diablo III fan too, so I thought this game would be a no brainer. This game has eclipsed DIII in my opinion. I just love this universe and the artstyle and the play mechanics. It's my 2nd favorite in the series. It's a shame Strife didn't get his own 3rd person "Zelda" game but this game is still a great entry in the series. You can tell by the drawn cutscenes (not rendered) that there's a bit of "bugdet" feel to it but it honestly doesn't detract from the overall experience. The gameplay is fantastic and the humrous writing is a nice change of pace. Highly recommended!
