Description
You come back from work hoping to get a good night's sleep but then you notice light blinking on your answering machine. It was your brother – an architect redeveloping an old train station and hotel. He called to ask for your help. Alarmed by his frightened voice, cryptic information about some disappearance and strange whispers in the background you board a train without hesitation. From now on your adventure has just begun and soon you will realize that although no one is there, you are not alone...

This Myst-style horror-adventure game will bring fear into your heart. From the very beginning you are exposed to an overwhelming but invisible ghost presence – strange calls, footsteps, voices from nowhere. In order to help your brother and survive you will need to solve the mystery of this abandoned, haunted place. And remember! Do not let it to find you! Do not let it to find you... Do not.. Let... find...

The game is best played in a dark room with your speakers turned up. Unless you're scared, of course.
  • A gripping and highly immersive storyline
  • The eerie atmosphere of real ghost hunting
  • Sceneries and ambient noises that will chill your very bones

A good short game

A diiferent experience, having got used to games such as Riven, URU and Syberia. Initially, I started very patiently wading through all the many clues (eg, photographs and brochures), to discover that most of them were probably not that impotant. The insight came (possible spoiler ahead!), when I went back and more carefully thought about the revolting gent's loo, with its voyeuristic hole and the LAZARUS grafiti with rune. Thereafter, things moved more quickly. A major downside for me was that I could not save the game. On attempting this, the screen I got into appeared right, but was not as there was no save option: so I had to restart each game from scratch (but not a big deal as much didn't have to be repeated.

A solid puzzle game for fans of Myst

To put it shortly, if you like first-person adventure games without any people and with a stronger focus on puzzles (eg, Myst) then you'll most likely appreciate Dark Fall. With the exception of one particularly finicky puzzle I managed to beat this game without any guides. be aware that unlike Myst, where most of the clues to puzzles are visual, Dark Fall hides most of its clues in in large amounts of reading materials. you can expect to do a lot of reading and re-reading books and letters if you plan on discovering the solutions to many of the puzzles. also, one of the most important pieces of advice i can give you before starting the game is to keep a pen and paper handy, as most if not all of the puzzles (such as locks) reset after you've finished them. Much like Myst the game presents its final puzzle relatively early and dedicates the rest of the game to presenting you the clues to it in small, scattered pieces. If none of these points scare you away then you can expect a fun, challenging puzzle game that will probably take you around ten or so hours (least that's how long I took to finish it).

Superb even after all these years

I managed to end the game after 15 hours of play. It is a gem. Old school puzzles, really spooky atmosphere and darkness...

Finally got to play this!

I had the disc version of this game about 20 years ago, but for whatever reason, my disc wouldn't install the game. For that, I'm thankful. This game has a creepy atmosphere that is rivaled by modern day horror games. I was on edge the whole time I played this game. I would highly recommend if you don't use a walkthrough, have a pen and paper with you! There is lots of information to absorb and it would be easily forgotten if not written down. 5/5 for spook factor. 4/5 for the story. Though the puzzles weren't too challenging, they could sometimes lead you around everywhere.

Good atmosphere, bad execution

I generally enjoyed this game. It has a really great atmosphere and can even be really creepy at some points. I also liked the setup. Other games of this style usually have sprawling world that are unlocked bit by bit. This game sets you into a hotel where you can access almost all rooms at once. It leaves you a lot of freedom on which puzzle to tackle first. The puzzles are generally good, if a bit easy. It has an inventory system, but places where you can use items are clearly marked, so there's no try-everything-on-everything-hell. The items are also sorted by when in the game you should pick them up. This makes it clear when you have missed something. I only got stuck once, when I overlooked a passage. However, I can understand why the game wasn't that well revcieved when it came out. It's not very well made. There are some minor bugs, like sounds not playing when they should. This didn't happen often to me, but confused me in some puzzles, when buttons suddenly didn't make noises anymore. The worst part is however, that puzzles reset after you solved them. If you didn't take notes or want to have another look, you have to do them again. Since some are trial and error, this is infuriating. Even doors keep locking themselves. There's a ingame reason for that, but it only covers up bad programming. Still, by todays standards it's definitely worth playing, since we don't get games like this anymore.
