Dark Fall 3: Lost Souls

So I played all three dark fall games in a row. Two was a complete write off, but if you play one, then three (this one), things make so much sense! You return to the station and hotel that you were at in the first game, which means lots of hidden things to look out for. The ambiance in this game is incredible. I felt like I was being watched the whole time, and there weren't any unnecissary jump scares. It was creepy and cool all at the same time! I liked how your cellphone functions as your flashlight and the texts function as a hint system that is imperitive to the storyline! Very well done as a final attempt on the series.

I love the first Dark Fall. The 2nd one was a decent adventure game if you ignore trying to figure out how it's a sequel. This one really annoyed me. I started off right away with a glitch and had to uninstall and reinstall. Saving the game was not very intuitive, and I restarted 3 more times before I realized it wasn't another glitch and that I could save by clicking above where I was trying. I hated the protagonist. Sure, he's established as not that great of a detective, but his voiceover every time he didn't understand something was killing me. Why do I have to be playing someone so incompetent? The plot doesn't make sense. I didn't realize there was a user manual outside of the game that explained the monsters that are never explained in the game, but even so, they still don't make sense. Hot spots are easy to miss. It heavily relied on the same lock pick puzzle over and over again. It definitely was scarier than the first 2... which is not really what I'm here for. The others were the perfect level of creepy for me. Uninstalled to collect virtual dust on my virtual shelf.

Amazing atmosphere and sound design, its waaaay scarier than in previous two Dark Fall games. The whole game has this uneasy feeling, like something is going to jump at you at any moment. I knocked 1 star for few early jumpscares, and for Inspectors gruff voice which is the voice of Jonathan Boakes (creator of this game) trying very hard to sound hard.

Incredible atmosphere, visuals and sound. Some parts , like interaction with ghosts, were super fun. The only complaint is that there are plenty of confusing moments when it was not obvious at all what to do. It's not that the puzzles were hard, no, they were well balanced and very cool (and creepy!), but finding out where to go next or how to proceed was often a problem for me. This game is an "old-school" classic, you need to figure out a lot on your own. You don't get hints on how to solve things, you need to do it all yourself. Still, I totally recommend playing it, just have that walkthrough nearby :)
