Without spoilers, all I can say is I have never ever played a DLC as amazing as Phantom Liberty. From the characters, the emotions, the narration, the scenery, the vibe, to the score and music it is absolutely fantastic. My deepest gaming experience since the main story hands down. Thank you.
Full disclosure:
I am a huge fan of 2077 and played it through it's darkest days.
On to the expansion:
The good:
The writing is really good. It does a great job of capturing a bond-style spy thriller in the world of 2077. The characters are interesting with their own nuanced performances and motivations. The new overlord of Dogtown is a compelling character, cut from the mold of Kurt in Apocalypse Now. These are like late Deus Ex characters with more dirt and grit animating their actions. It is actually something I was really craving.
The art direction is phenomenal. Dogtown manages to feel like a city within the city, an occupied zone with its own rules.
The music is also very well done. This I cludes the so g that rolls during the credits.
Songbird is a standout character in the genre.
The not as good:
A few of the new side quests are silly without also being interesting. I am not going to say which to avoid spoilers but some are real eyerollers.
The new weapons, with the e, ceotion of a pair of story-related ones, don't add anything.
Aside:
I have seen people saying this is DRM'd. I have no idea why. I was able to install it fine with Galaxy on my desktop and fine without it on my Steam Deck, without using galaxy. Both seemed to work just fine.
Also, people seem to be complaining about gog selling dlc. I am not sure I get this complaint as I have bought plenty of dlc here, including the witcher expansions.
Anyhow, this is a great explansion for fans of either Cyberpunk 2077 or Deus Ex who are still upset Mankind Divided is not getting a sequel any time soon.
Ok guys, after reading some amount (too much) of bullshit I decided to do my first review on GOG.
To put things strait, I'm a gamer since the 80's and mastered Bards Tale, Wasteland, Pool of Radiance, Star Command and Red Strom Rising just to give the people how still know those names an short impression.
I read about Cyberpunk not being like GTA or something like that shit - well, don't buy it. No one told you it's like GTA and just because you are too stupid to know, what you are doing, nobody else deserves to suffer!
Next point: who are those despicable demihumans who threaten people, who worked on the game, to take their lifes? Are you sick? Go on and remove yourself from the planet, but do not bother other humans!
Back To the Game: I started playing at launch (PC), maybe I got lucky but I encountered no major breaking bugs. At the moment my character was designed, I fell into the story. Every time I start the game it takes me to long to stop playing. In short, in my opinion it is the most immersive, breathtaking roleplaying game I ever encountered. Yes, there are bugs and yes it is not really an open world BUT regarding things like Starfield (dead, only generated, The Outer Worlds is the better version of the same game with less marketing), I prefer Night City every time! Ever been to the Farm? If not, you don't know what you talk and write about... Oh, and by the way I finished all endings and now, with Phantom Liberty I started a new game, to enjoy the intended new version of the city.
Of course, it maybe not your game and that’s perfect, take another one which fits your desires! But don't tell this game is shit just because it's not your kind of game. And to the haters: as written before, take the Darwin Award and remove yourself from the gen-pool of humanity!
In short: I take this game as a masterpiece in my 40years gaming experience, better than anything in the last years. However, it's a game, it should entertain you, it's no religion or science.
The media reports about this being some kind of redemption or transformative addition kind of baffle me. This is more Cyberpunk 2077, no more and no less. Yes the 2.0 patch made some good tweaks to the game's mechanics, and yes Phantom Liberty has perhaps more story choices and better game/story balance. However at the end of the day 95% of the game experience is the same.
Which is good! Good for me anyway, as I love the game. Deus Ex style infiltration missions in a gorgeous world with solid combat feel and great storytelling? Sign me the **** up! I understand the flaws though... a lack of depth to the open world, the mostly story light gigs, the forced combat sections even if you make a stealth or netrunner build... but I love the game despite these things. If it wasn't your thing at launch though I really doubt it will be your thing now.
Love the new 2.0 patch, the modified mechanics really makes buiding the character interesting with the different branches you can choose. It makes a large difference to gameplay and I love to explore them in new runs through the game.
The time and effort made to optimization makes the game load really fast and makes the transition between the different interfaces (map, inventory and so on) smoother. It still stutters a bit on my machine though.
