Fun but Not Fun

This is a review for the updated version, so the game is not buggy at all. Looks great. Runs smooth. So why the bad score? *Look the other way CD Projekt RED folks* The story was awful. Just awful. Who ever wrote this cannot be the same person who wrote Witcher 3. After a few hours of gameplay I was already forcing myself to keep playing, and after the 'plot twist' (you know the one I am talking about, with Johnny) I thought to myself.. you have got to be kidding me? I will say I was hoping for more of an open RPG, instead of a Lead you around by the nose RPG, but that is not fair to judge the game for trying something new. That said, I am not sure I am going to finish this. The gameplay is fun. But I have read backs of cereal boxes that were more engaging storywise. Sorry CD RED. Better luck next time.

Typical Mainstream Decline

This is really not a good game in any way besides its renderer. Cyberpunk 2077 is a vast almost-open world game that drops you into it without any proper exposition or lore. It tries to tell its story by flashing bright lights at you and playing loud music. Terrible world building. There's also nothing to be found in the way of character development. The most it does from a writing perspective is divide classes by their language, with gutter trash having their own lingo. Things are no better when it comes to gameplay. Shooting mechanics are similar to Fallout 4 which is not good: very generic, no depth, damage scales with your level which is bad design (animations/speed/player stats should scale with level instead), weapon design isn't distinct in the slightest. Guns are actually less customziable than in Fallout 4 though. Cyberpunk represents everything wrong with mainstream gaming almost: rushed, awful release, thinks it can tell a story by flashing bright lights and blasting loud music at you and flashing tits at you, gameplay is an afterthought. It also has by far the worst UI I've ever seen. The game is a discombobulated mess. The only reason I've given it 2/5 rather than 1/5 is because it's at least forward thinking with its technology and implements modern technology correctly unlike most games. DLSS, FSR 2, and XeSS are all implemented correctly - not being used with conflicting forms of TAA, being used for dynamic res, and DLAA is present as its own option. It is the second game after Portal to have a fully path traced renderer which is awesome, and CDPR was smart enough to have NVIDIA help implement things correctly. I use it as a tech demo/benchmark.

2 stars for 2.0

After nearly three years of making incremental changes, largely for the better, they dumped a wholesale change of the game systems that largely get rid of any of the incremental improvements that had been made.I have spent over 2,000 hours in this game and now it just feels unpleasant to play. There is now way more visual distortion when engaging in a fight with enemies. Not just the needlessly beefed-up netrunners, but the general level of onscreen "visual noise" is ridiculous and unpleasant. Moving pistols to 'Cool' and making the 'Tech' tree so focused on cyberware means I now have save files of V's with no viable build for how I had played them. Having done playthroughs focused on crafting "tech" but light on cyberware is now not really feasible. I can't be the only one who has no interest in vehicular combat, so seeing that they pu a perk for it under every attribute makes me dread what may be about to come in Phantom Liberty. Tying grenades and healing to "charges" that deplete and refresh is nonsense, but I'm already getting angry on the internet and have spent enough time complaining about a video game.

More bugs than game so far

When people say 'this game is unplayable' they usually mean it's uncomfortably bad. This game is more genuinely unplayable. It won't let you play it. It would rather turn off all the lights and let you enjoy the supposedly amazing spectacular visuals in an all-black blind mode, than let you enjoy something you paid for. I'm looking into a refund.

CDPR: from nomads to corporate ***

The real problem with this game it's not bugs, you can fix bugs, poor performances you can also fix, what's broken in this game is your consumer's trust. We were promised an RPG, and this is just a FPS with mostly useless RPG elements. We were promised a story, and everything feels rushed, you have an impending doom "spell" cast upon you but it really doesn't make sense, cause the doom never arrives if you let time pass... Speaking of time, when you rest you just change the sun position, any NPC keep doing what he was doing the moment you started to skip time. You receive an email about rent past due, you have no way to pay it, you go in a strip club and there's no strip service to buy, you constantly fight against gang members but you're still BFF with their representative. The advertised nudity, mostly in the form of genitalia customization, but still to please the usual bigots, they removed it from the real game (you just can see it in the inventory), and it's pretty clear they did this to avoid there being 90% of Cyberpunk related screenshot and videos about your penis/vagina. They promised never to use crunch, but they did use it, and it's pointless, everybody knows that scientifically crunsh is useless, you just kill your employees efficiency day after day till you just get crap out of their work (as we can see by the state of the game). Broken promises, hundreds of PR lies, I won't refund the game, but I'm refunding my trust in you.
