They've done a great job with the world, the story and most of the tech.
But I think it was a too ambitious project for them to really polish it. Many people might not be bothered by characters and objects that float above the ground or flickering shadows with both max ray tracing and path tracing or bad LODs or many city dwellers that walk next to their look-alike.
I really like the game, but the tech issues, that remain to this day ... I cannot ignore. I must instead force myself to not concentrate on them and instead enjoy the game.
Would give 3.5 stars, if I could.
The good thing is, there is a vampire bulid. There is no self reflection witch is very weird standing besides other character.
Well at least I can walk throug any npc.
There is no anti-aliasing on the corporate opening conversation, and the mirrored face is very blurry (on an RTX 3080).
That is my first 5 minutes in the game.
I've never seen or experienced a game world like this, and that is what this game is all about. It's not "Witcher 3," it's a sandbox game in an incredibly detailed, immersive, dark city with lots of tight quarters, scary characters and a dangerous edge you can't shake. Everything is dirty, shady, criminal, and indicative of a society hanging on by a string after corporations take over government and essentially enslave people in order to further their own interests.
It's important to understand this - if you're looking to be "swept-up" by the story, you may be disappointed. It seems to be more about finding your own way in the city and building-up your character from a nobody with nothing in your pocket, to a powerful, self-reliant cyberGod in a city of sleaze.
The graphics and city are downright amazing, nothing like I've seen before in a game, tons of gritty detail and an immserive quality unlike anything I've ever experienced. It gives me Deus Ex vibes as the game seem to do everything fairly well...shooting, stealth, hacking, melee, driving etc..,
The voice-acting is amazing and the writing is great, the game is a fully immersive RPG that is a bit shallow on attributes/perks, but does have a lot of other facets in the way of customizing your cyber implants and deck, weapons etc...,
I experienced the widely-reported visual glitches and slow-downs, mostly as in-game quest scripts kicked-off, and the driving with mouse/keyboard was ridiculously bad/touchy, something I'm sure they'll address eventually, but in the mean time I may have to tweak mouse acceleration settings to handle.
Using an RTX 2060 card and quad-core at 3.9ghz, the game runs pretty great at high settings, and looks fantastic.
This game is a slow burn, it starts out slowly, as it should, so you need to prepare for that. Read the lore, take it in, and wait for patches! Glorious game. Takes me back to the early 2000's when games were original and full of effort.
So I'm definitely happy with story and gameplay. Gunplay is good and the hacking is very interesting. Started as a Corpo and going to start building as a stealthy, mantis-armed hacker. I've had a couple of issues in my gameplay, some barely worth mentioning and one that could be a problem. Here's a list of issues I've compiled thus far.
- Character creation cyberware options issue. Couldn't flip through the cyberware options for a minute when in character creation. flipped through piercings, tried it again and it worked. Don't know if the piercing flip was what fixed it or not.
- T-posing NPCs. Noticed it was the same model in different clothes (a large, black woman) in the club you go to at the start of the game. Could be an issue with the model or I just happened to get two of the same models glitched.
- Female texture glitch. Noticed my V had a minor texture issue around her collar bone and chest when wearing a tank top, but disappears most of the time, which is why I debated even adding this.
- (Largest one) On "The Ripperdoc" mission I went through the driving tutorial and parked. Got out of the car and started walking when I was suddenly hit with a CTD. Not sure if it's related to the mission or not, but I'll keep an eye out.
Those are all of my grievances thusfar, nothing too concerning apart from the crash. I'll keep playing, update the list as I go, and report them. Again fantastic game! Great acting, dialogue, and gameplay that I will definitely have a blast with. Needs some polish from the Polish (Get it?), but ultimately a fun experience that can only improve!
