Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Not even a single game session without heartburning anger due to some bug that cause me to reload multiple times.
Time and time again, three characters created, bug and bug and bug again.
First character: close to recommended PC configuration: chain crash series (way too understated requirement for processor and memory) and constant reloading due to bugs.
Same with second one: I stopped playing for some time.
Third character: one of most interesting quests ruined and unfinishable due to a bug. I have enough - frustration hit the roof. I was big supporter but not anymore.
Second Buggerfall.
First of all, I LIKE THIS GAME. Really. It's story and ambience inmerse me in Night city. I love it. But, sadly, I can not put a good note of the experience.
First, what they did right in the game:
-The estetic of everithing it's spot on for me, I imagine a cyberpunk game with this look, the dirt, the buildings, the clothes,... Everything is good AND feels good.
-The story. I LOVE the story. They're ups and downs in it, but I buy it. I'ts well written in the most part.
-The acting. Incredible. Seriously, great acting. One of the best things in the game. You feel everything with how they talk. Kudos.
Now the bad:
-The gunplay doesn't work for me. The sound and animations are good, but something in the gunplay feels...wrong. Like it's not finished or polished.
-The NPCs. They're lifeless. They do nothing, and you see certain npcs that doesn't belong to that part of the city.
-Police. Useless. Really. You can take them out and the product doesn't change. At all. Unless you want to fight police, they're useless.
-CQC. No real feedback. It's half cooked.
-Driving. In PC, with keyboard, it's like moving a brick in the air. Very bad response for keyboard users.
-Inventory. The worst part. Bad hud, useless items, crafting it's "Mostly" useless,.... The idea of looter shooter harms the gameplay. It would be better to put tiers of quality, and the same gun in every tier made the same dps. Less problems in the long run. You pick up weapons and discart them in minutes. It's maddening.
-Rpg elements. Nearly non-existent. The perk system doesn't work, very few repercusions in the story, very few options.
-Hacking: It's broken. Completly. You can use it for everything and open everything with it.
It's sad and a shame the quality of the game. I want to give them more, but the bad things in it makes it imposible. This game needed at least one or two years of development to polish everything. My recomendation? Play it, but don't expect much in gameplay.
Is it a good game? Yes.
Does it live up to its hype and promises? No.
Scenes that were seen in previews are not in, things that have been promised and talked about, never were in place.
Classes that seemed fun to me and I actually planned to play were taken out.
The AI is dumb AF. Police is ridiculous.
The story is excellent though, the graphics nice and the characters likable and fun.
The bare bones of a game are there, and the world is pretty. Still plenty of bugs, but what can't be fixed is how devoid of any care, soul, or life the game seems to be.
I preordered the game. Decided not to play it at release due to to all the bugs. Controversies aside, I said to myself I won't refund and I'll give it a year, let the dust settle and give them a chance to fix it, for old times sake. I've been playing their games since the witcher 1 came out.
I'll say I'm extremely dissapointed. After a year and a half, I get to the tutorial. In part where you learn how to sneak, one of the AI robots I need to sneak past just registers as dead while standing right in front of me. I can loot his weapons. Randomly he goes in and out of the T pose.
I get through that part and get stuck in the melee section where you have to "block a strong attack 2x". The AI controlled robot is in the defensive pose, not attacking, also randomy T posing for a split second.
After all this time, they weren't able to fix even the tutorial section. I have no whish to go any further because I have no reason to believe the rest of the game is any better. You would expect they at least made sure that the part in the beginning is polished by now.
