Cyberpunk 2.0 is a true masterpiece

Cyberpunk 2.0 is a truly fantastic game. Easily one of the best RPGs I ever played. Night City is hands down one of the best designed, most immersive locations I ever have experienced in a video game. Also, the writing is second to none. The main story is really engaging, the side missions are well written and rich in variety. A real highlight for me were the characters. The writing of all these likeable, memorable despicable and odd characters in Night Cit is just stellar. Not to forget the excellent graphics, which contribute a lot to the atmosphere of the game. Same can be said about the soundtrack, which does an excellent job setting the mood for the missions and Night City as a whole. The game still suffers from some bugs, but nothing major. It took almost 3 years, but I think Cyberpunk 2077 has now finally become the masterpiece it should already have been at its launch in 2020.

Recent update is meh

So, the game is fine. The last update that altered the grenade and health mechanic is a disappointment. Basically, they made it so that you get two grenades/medkits that renew, this was to prevent health spamming. I don't like that mechanic in general but it really showcases the weakness of the enemies as they remain bullet sponges unless you level up. It bothers me to so radically alter the game mechanics this far into the game's life.

Better than it's reputation

I bought the game originally upon release, via GoG to support CDPR with as much as possible, having been a fan of the studio since The Witcher 1. Reviews came in before I could boot up the game, and prompted me to halt begin playing. I ended up waiting until Phantom Liberty and Patch 2.0 before starting my first adventure as the titular V. Current state-of-play as per Patch 2.1: * NPC's sometimes detect me through walls, or initiate dialogue through walls. The receptionist at the hotel downtown where you visit some Russians is particularly annoying.. * My car explodes sometimes when spawning in for no particular reason. * I did a hard u-turn on a highway and somehow ended up on the street below it. * Kerry had his guitar surgically attached to his hand for most of the time during his final mission. These are just some examples of bugs and glitches that still occur, even now, three years past release. Do they destroy my enjoyment of the game? No. I have now done two Origins and spent 612 hours combined on the game. That is value for money, no matter how you slice it. And I will be playing the third life-path, despite the actual changes being very minimal. The overall theme of the game seems to be "missed opportunities", I often felt like systems could have been expanded upon, themes could have been broader, options for completing missions could have been more varied. Mechanically, I feel like the game plays extremely well. I'm a sucker for netrunning though, so I have yet to fully delve in to Sandevistan/Berserk playstyles.. but that's up next. The side quests are varied and interesting, there's a ton of in-world dialogue to pick up on to make the world feel 'lived in', but only at a surface level. Given what I know of what the 2.0 patch introduced, if you already own the game I highly suggest you get the expansion and the patch, and give it another go. There's so much more that could have been done, and that's the only real downside here.

Mona Lisa Overdrive

I went into this game without expectations. Like everyone else, I saw the mess of a launch that this game had and decided to wait until the game was in a more playable state. I bought it on sale and had some free time, so thought it was the right time to give this game a go. I figured I would stick with it for a couple of hours until getting bored and moving on. I was totally hooked about an hour into the game. The strength of its writing and its world-building really shine through. Its so refreshing to play a game where your not a hero; you are playing to survive. You are a flawed character, and you have to make choices that truly impact other characters. I don't just mean that the game decides that you get a good or evil ending; this is one of those rare games where I walked away from playing and was still asking myself whether I had made the right decision at critical junctures in the game. The Cyberpunk roleplaying system is a bit more streamlined than something like Dungeons and Dragons, but it allows for many play-styles. You can have a stealth build, or play a brute who goes in guns blazing. Maybe you want a bit of both. Your own perception of your character changes through the choices you make, and you'll alter your build in the direction that suits your style. Discovering your style is what its all about in a cyberpunk universe. Finally, the graphics and sound are stunning. For the main portion of the game (about 50 hours), you feel like your in a William Gibson novel that has come to life. I think most people who praise the game have already said that a lot of kudos should go to the art team, and I agree. Every part of Night City has been crafted. The voice acting is top notch, making the characters are believable. I really did not expect much out of this game, but it left an impact. There are some bugs and jankiness, but it still feels like a benchmark for adult-oriented action RPG games.

Its in a great state now.

Its fun. I recommend it in 2024. The game has varied gameplay mechanics and an interesting story. I first played the game in 2023 so I did not experience the rough launch. But as of right now, its in a great state, Recommended.
