Eh....

I preordered months ago and kept it, despite delays,hoping for the best. Feel I may ahve overhyped. Some points described below, where Im especially unhappy. Hoping DLCs fix a lot. *Story: 5/10. I love what they were going for but the main campaign feels WAY too short. And I hate every ending they came out with. None satisfy me or the effort I feel V puts in as a character. Without going into detail to avoid spoilers, I understand its dystopian, may not be happy in the ways we want/expect, but d*mn, give us at least one happy ending, esp w/ our rmanced characters. Maybe DLC will fix, maybe it won't. We'll see. Hopefully they really expand main story line as some dialogues/relationship (such as w/ Johnny and others) start out at a great pace and suddenly seem like we're besties in the next main storymission. *Romances 3/10: Especially w/ my favorite, River Ward, they feel short and dead once they're completed. Nothing to do w/ them after the romance, not even call them to talk (except in one scenario towards end). Feels mostly pointless and hope they do more with them in DLC as I really love River and wanted more interaction w/ him. *Clothing: 4/10: Interesting designs... to say the least, but more disappointed we can't have one set for stats and another to wear above it for looks. I would also lvoe more designs of clothing to appeal to various styles. *Apartments 1/10: I was promised new apartments to move into. I see none but I definitely still want to upgrade from the hovel I'm in. *Backstory 3/10: Aside from minor dialogue changes, backstory feels worthless to overall story. *Character design 6/10: Could use better hair styles to accomdate a wide rvariety of preferences. Esp for females, not many I really like. *New game+: non existent, and it should be there ep since there are iconic weapons you can get in certain endings butn o use after. Talents 5/10: Pointless, esp w/ crafting tree. Mostly feels useless, but haven't tried the hardest difficulty yet.

A great game with enormous concessions.

You can see that a great deal of love was put into this title. Not just by the dizzying sights and sounds of Night city, but with excellent writing and some really robust central game mechanics. The flexibility of the upgrade system and the feats players in the late game pull off make for something really compelling and addictive to play. But aside from the myriad bugs, there are elements of the game which were implemented so poorly that you have to assume that something went massively wrong with the roadmap or they simply ran out of time. Most notably, the NPC behaviours, from named characters, to police, to enemies, to traffic, to bog-standard AI just aren't fit for purpose for a game of this calibre and budget. This game has the makings of something truly outstanding. From time to time you can really see that in action. But it's impossible not to see the places where the developers made huge compromises, and it makes the disppointment in CDPR's flagship game all the more acute.

It's okay

If you go into this experience with zero expectations, no preconceived notions about content that may or may not have been (but definitely was) promised, and you're willing to look beyond a buffet of technical problems, this is a solid 7/10. I've played more than 50 hours, and it's okay. Just okay. When it works, it's pretty good. The rest of the time it's a frustrating mess. Even with a 3090, this just ain't it. The game may be sci-fi, but look elsewhere if you want to see the future.

An amazing immersive sim under there...

But no, I wouldn't suggest buying it just yet. Management let the game out before it was done, and it's really just not there yet. Underneat the issues there is a genuniely fantastic game - which I highly recommend you give a chance *once it's clear the issues have been resolved.*

Buggy mess of crashing

Sorry, but this game is not finished. Animations are so poor and rigid you want to cringe. Game breaking bugs in the TUTORIAL that keep you from progressing. Game crashes all the time and just isn't fun to play. Will be happy to change review if they fix it. Loved the Witcher3 but this mess is just not even on the same level. And of course, consoles get first fixes and offers for refunds. Feels like a bad console port.
