Flawed masterpiece

First of the game is exelent and if you are a fan of Deus Ex etc you will like it tho it has some flaws. Alot of the initial flack the game got at releace was due to broken console ports and that inturn spilled over to PC. But PC release was far from flawless itself and was full of buggs but nowhere as awefull as some would have you beleve. The game is good, real good but it did not live up to the extreame hype that an extended dev cycle and hi profile actor promotion and almost deific expectations on CDPR after The Witcher 3. It was a victim to extreame expectations and some hybris on the studio side as their custom inhouse engine coused enormus issues and those where not entiarly adressed before release. It woud have been an instant classic if it only had stayed in the development oven for a year or two more. Was it due to corpo/goverment pressure? Was it financial trubbles or a naive belief that it could be fixed post launch without backlash? Who knows but it cost them and us dearly.

Not a fan of the direction of the game

2.0 patch has appeared and developers are already forcing you to play as they want, a lot of skills that you which you had before have disappeared, now stealth is almost impossible, you either kill all when you start or you are already located.. the new improvements are not really noticeable, the same texture bugs as before, the game seems to be forced to be played on the console... I'm not a fan at all. now, it seems that there are fewer buttons that can be pressed with the mouse, the game is starting to be a console first pc second, everything is nerfed, even do this is a single players game..

It's pretty okay

It's pretty okay. The story is good, if not a little forced. The main story is not about the stuff that happens, but the relationships the main characters have with each other. That stuff is all well-written. The stuff that happens on the other hand feels kind of contrived. The false sense of urgency is weird, as is the way the game defaults back to the next main story quest every time any side mission is completed. It is like it tries to funnel you through the main line, whilst explaining ad nauseum how important and dire things are, and how you are up against a ticking clock that simply doesn't exist. This extends to the game world. It very much exists for the player character. It does not feel like a world that exists outside of what would be good for the PC. There is random stuff laying around for the taking. None of the NPCs are doing anything. They just walk around aimlessly and have a doppelgänger on every corner. No one appears to have any kind of thoughts going on outside of missions. Police wander as aimlessly as the rest and ignore any crimes happening right in front of them unless committed by the player. Vendors exist everywhere, but you cannot even talk to them. Graphically it is pretty good. It has weird stuff going on though that can be distracting. There are flaming trash bins everywhere that do not act as a light source. If the fire isn't going to emit any light, why choose to have the barrel on fire. Just have it be full of trash. Don't have other miscellaneous light sources everywhere if the engine is not capable of rendering enough shadows for them. This can be overcome if you turn on path tracing, but good luck with that if you don't have a 4090. Maybe if I had a smaller 1440p monitor instead of a 70" 4k monitor I could hit the right frame rates, and not notice that turning on upscaling borks the anti-aliasing. I hear the DLC is really good, but I am not about to pay $30 for DLC to a game that I rate as "pretty okay."

Not ready yet

Fix the bugs please. They are too distraction and break the immersion completely. You shouldn't have released the game in a state like this. 8 years of waiting ruined Samuray out.

Wasted opportunity

1-Story: Not gonna spoil, but a certain turn of events clears the air about what "it's about saving yourself" means, and pretty quickly. Maybe too quickly. As quickly as the game throws a 2 minutes montage at us and expects us to care about certain npcs. The whole plot feel rather lackluster. No stars here. 2-Gameplay: If you are a controller type of gamer like me, just unplug it and use keyboard + mouse. "Aim Assist" does not help with aiming, which remains a torture. Most of the cars felt like old muscle cars with 0 handling and poor braking power: at some point I've decided to simply fast travel to destinations. Hacking and other mechanics don't bring anything new to the table, while stealth is possibly the most frustrating: your companion typically screws them all by following you like a drunk hobo trying to walk a straight line, while you're trying to surgically sneak past enemies. Speaking of drunk hobos: Melee combat. Seriously, I'm well past my 40s, but I was yet to see anything as terrible as this. Not even 4D Sports Boxing on the Amiga 500 felt as terrible (and it's a game from 1991). Enemies benefit from some sort of perks that I wish to have, as they manage to deal damage through your "blocks", and somehow even get to hit you even while swinging in an entirely different direction. Gameplay is so bad it brought me memories of what gaming felt like in the 80s/90s: so I'm giving it 1 Nostalgia Star. 3-Graphics: I'd say the only 2 things that shine are Night City and npcs Mo-Cap. The city actually has the cyberpunk vibe, even tho it just remains a "vibe". The so much anticipated (sexy) private shows are mere cosmetics *coff* baits *coff*: too bad, for an heavily sexualized city as a cyberpunk city should be. Not to mention food kiosks, where you can't order anything (anti-covid restrictions?) 4-Audio: 1 star for the music (they've been "chippin in" on music so much, so it was to be expected); Conclusions: At least wait for a patch (and/or a discount).
