It is a very good game, far from what they promised and certainly has bugs, but it is an enjoyable game, it makes you want to play it the longer you play it.
The character design is horrible, the intervention by a certain political agenda is very noticeable.
**Full disclosure: I purchased this game at a discount and at patch 1.31
At the moment I am 20+ hours in and I just finished the second part of the main story (Johnny). I am currently playing a lot of side missions but wanted to give my review so far.
The story is solid, the main characters are good, and the world is beautiful. The gameplay is a little of Deus Ex meets Witcher 3 with a sprinkle of Oblivion. You have the choice of tackling missions with stealth, run & gun, hack & slash, or all of the above. Like Oblivion, as you do certain actions you improve those particular skills and can gain perks, so it's great to mix it up.
CD Projekt Red did an excellent job of world building with Night City. Like The Witcher series with books, the some of the world building is done with text from items called shards.
There are issues though from AI, physics, graphical and lighting, texture (especially from liquid), combat, movement, etc.
Sometimes enemies just stand around, no patrolling or anything, so it's really easy to sneak up and take them out. Sometimes you will be doing side-missions for the police, and once you're done the cops will aggro on you because you committed a crime (even though they were ok with you helping).
Dodging is garbage, I wish you can turn it off. It requires you to double tap in any direction, but I like to tap movement while stealth to move short distances while trying to see a portion of the enemey so I can hack them, but it will make me dodge out in the open.
The side-quests do get repetitive after a while, driving is awful, and you are given so many healing items that even if you find yourself overwhelmed you can heal through it while chipping away at enemies.
I think there is a lot of potential here overtime as CD Projekt Red continue to work out the issues. The modding community is already growing and has fixed some of the issues with civilian AI and driving. I think it's worth playing at least once for the story.
Visually the game is simple top notch. Night city feels alive . I recommend not fast traveling and riding a vehicle to go places.
Story wise its a good story. Not perfect by any means, but good. Characters are fleshed, specially Johny.
Gameplay wise it could have been much better. When the worldbuilding is good, you like to try different approaches to different challenges to make second or third playthroughs interesting. It does acomplish that, but given the huge expectations it does feel a bit underwhelming.... still good for at least a couple of playthrouhgs. Gonna try 1.5 that seems to add a bit more challenge. But honestly so many things could have been done to improve massively the replay value .. I do hope DLCs change that.
Also: The game is BIG! If you enjoy doing sidequests, theres stuff for HOURS.
