Fantastic game, that could be better.

Skpping technical issues with the game early on, as usual, CDPR dealt with those. The game is gorgeous, it has an amazing sound track, and a gripping story IMHO filled with some pretty great characters (and some that aren't so great.) I'm on my 4th play through, and still enjoying the game. Yes, it's not a wide open RPG where you can be anyone and do anything, but then again neither was TW3 either. Although, TW3 did have more ending possibilities. I'm personally okay with that, because the plot and world are both very gripping. The game blends some of my favorite aspects of GTA, Hitman and Deus Ex in to one game, and does it very well. However, it could be so much more. Some of this could be fixed via DLC, some of this could be just something they need to wait for "Cyberpunk 2078" for or something. I want more ending options, or at least path options to the end. I want more diversity in the dialogue for different personalities, and more "reprecussions" from dialogue and options like TW3. These things are doable, with time. That said, again, for AAA prices? I'm perfectly happy with my purchase. I just see how it could have been even more.

Cyberpunk 2077

This has been one of the most controversial games, maybe ever. CDPR lied for nearly a decade about things that would be in the game. How it launched was frankly inexcusable. However. The good parts are really good. This game made me feel things, and that hardly ever happens. In fact, at this point listening to Never Fade Away brings back pretty much all of it. And I finished my playthrough months ago. I want more of this setting. Because the city and the setting and everything like that is phenomenal. Maybe I have simple taste or something, who knows. But I think this is a good game. Very flawed, but a good game. 3.5 stars / 5

I waited then I waited some more. And...

My patience was rewarded. Seeing all the trailers and the premise of the game I was very excited for the release of the game. Then I heard about all the bugs in the game and how it severely impacted the playability of the game so I held off on getting it. A couple of weeks ago it went on sale for 50% and I had read that the game was alot more playable now. The story (so far) has been very interesting which is especially important since the game is single player only. The environment is very immersive and the characters are quite realistic. Even the "generic" NPCs are well done and you don't see the same NPC twice. (at least I haven't yet). I am still getting used to the game mechanics however, there's so much you CAN do so its difficult to learn everything. All in all I am glad that I waited because now its met my expectations.

above my expectations

My expectations had been set so low due to the messy launch and constant negative reviews that I was expecting something much, much worse (as some defined it, a janky GTA clone). Instead my experience with the game (which occurred about a year after release, a delay that possibly improved it by some margin) was definitely positive. After having completed the main story with 60 + hours in the game, I am left with a little bit of melancholy for having abandoned the world and its characters; character that to me felt very real, with their peculiar backstories and professional voice acting. Some more technical/gameplay aspects still feel half-finished/polished, but overall I'd say this is a must for anybody even vaguely interested in the cyberpunk genre and it themes. To add on the topic of immersion and "cyberpunk-ness", I recall an unkind tweet by one of the genre fathers (William Gibson), who stated that (in the trailers) the game looked too bright and action-oriented to actually be defined "cyberpunk"; after playing it I can say that thankfully this is not the case, as in my opinion the themes brought up in the author's Sprawl trilogy (although the mythology of the board game was not inspired by those books) are all present and strong. And on top we also got a Portal easter egg/cameo!
