Undercooked

There's actually a fair amount that's good about this game, despite it being popular to hate. (It's not much of an RPG though. Less Fallout NV and more Mass Effect 3 in terms of narrative descisions and their depth.) The main story and the major companion questlines are quite good. The game looks *incredible,* especially at middle to long distances...if you have a quite powerful PC. The combat is ok to good depending on what you're doing, and some of the weapons and abilites feel incredibly good to use. The soundtrack is good. The level design is good. But, the game is like, half a game. The gameplay loop outside of those main story and main companion quests is MMO tier kill loot repeat loop. No narrative interactivity at all, and all the missions (with rare exceptions) basically boil down to 'kill everyone' or 'kill everyone and get the thing.' The clothes are much more limited than you might hope and unless you level heavy into crafting you're basically stuck in a clownsuit. So much for 'choose your style.' The generic NPCs don't react properly to anything. The bugs. Cops spawn litterally 3 inches from you if you accidentally shoot a civillian and then 2 shot you before you're even fully aware that they're there. No visual customization. TL:DR If you can't shoot it, and it isn't a quest objective, you can't interact with it at all. In most games that's not really a big deal, but for a game that presents itself as an immersive sim, to the point of doing all the cutscenes in 1st person so you feel more immersed, it is kinda a problem that 95% of the vending machines are fake, especially in an era where RDR2 exists.) Obviously the promised character customization didn't make an appearance. There's a good game in here somewhere. It's just buried under generic open world design and broken promises. I have hopes that it can live up to it's potential at some point. But I'm rating the game as it is, not as it might be. It's no Sonic Boom...but it's no VTM:B either.

Beat the Game at Launch; a retrospective

Cyberpunk 2077 launched near the end of 2020, and at that time, it was buggy, unfinished, unpolished, crash-prone, and failed to deliver on much of what was advertised. More than a year has passed since then, with multiple patches and multiple hotfixes, so let's take stock. What is the game like currently? Pros -The visuals are immersive. Night City shines like a neon-soaked jewel. -The characters are likable and memorable. -The soundtrack of actual BGM is phenomenal, and the in-universe radio music is fun. -The storyline features branching paths. Even a secret one. -Character customization is deep and can impact the options you have. -Numerous language/accessibility features. Cons -Night City, and the game as a whole, will greatly vary depending on your platform. Crowd size, traffic, frame rate, and overall stability are all dependent on platform. -Romance options, as of Jan 2022, are limited. Once romanced, it has little impact on day-to-day gameplay. Some romance options are locked-out depending on character customization. -The selected life path can influence dialogue choices, but it has almost no impact on the storyline post-prologue. -You rarely see your character in third-person, which calls into question why the character customization options were so deep. -Despite the many fixes, the game can still pause, stutter, behave strangely, or yes, even still crash entirely. Even on PC. A year later, the main focus of the multiple patches and hotfixes has been to increase stability and fix bugs. A year later, the game actually "feels" like it should have at launch. It took an extra year. There have also been numerous roadmaps for future content, but those have changed. A lot. The only "DLC" shown on GOG is that Piggyback map. More jackets are not DLC. Johnny's second skin is not DLC. Another car is not DLC. Those all should have been in-game at launch, but "launch" should have been at LEAST one year later than when CP2077 released. (Beat on base PS4).

More patches, more problems

I preorder this game- only one ever and I regret it. Funny that. If this game come out without all the blabering and hype- this game would be 10/10 material. But in my world- your word is all you have. I saw some interviews with devs like a year before they released it and I saw doubt in them so I was not suprised by the state of the game on release. PC game was not buggy mess and I do not care about snowflakes from consoles that was used to get everything first and polished. I do care about people lying and stealing my money tho. This game should have been released in late 2023. Nobody told you to say publicly date for release, you could just keep on saying "it will be done when we are fininished" and all will be crazy about it. You would gain so much more money and loyalty- now? Go ef yourself. I refuse to pay you any more money. Everything else will be bough when price comes down 90%. SO, HOW ABOUT THE GAME ITSELF? Gameplay is ok, nothing special. Especially because they introduced mouse acceleration that I can not remove anymore- so I cant play the game even if I wanted to- and I do not want to. Why? Because of last 30% of game story- it is pure garbage. I can see that console pülayers will love the "on rail shooter" mechanics but not me. I have standards. It is like all team just drop the bucket after some time and just did not care anymore. AAA devs just think all they have to do is to make sexy graphic and people will eat it. Unfortunatelly they are right- sheer amount of sheep will carry this to the death and beyond. Just look how many of them pay for FIFA or other pay to play games.... Still, it is funny to hear them rage on youtube, lol. Anyway- game is mix of feelings. If I do not love witcher 3 so much I would never even bother with this game anyway. CDPR- you fucked up.

Patch 2.0 ruined this

Patch 2.0 brought a lot of controversial changes (and old bugs I haven't seen since 1.3). It really makes me wonder who is overseeing the whole project. How do you reintroduce old bugs in a new patch? The game was fun pre 2.0. There was a lot of freedom in playstyles and the systems made some sense. Now, so many changes force you into certain unfun paths. Its like each team in charge of changing systems never talked to each other. Hundreds of clothing don't give armor, but one specifically does. Perks now unlock at lvl 4, 9, 15 and 20, instead of at roughly every 2 levels, but the lvl 20 perks are worse than lvl 15 so no reason to get 20 in anything except tech. Skill checks are broken. Mission balance is broken. Perk balance makes no sense. The police system is broken, despite their marketing being all about the new police system. A lot of builds are broken, leading to more railroading. Previous patch had a lot of variety in play styles, whereas now players are railroaded into a combat build because all of the feats they showcased in the ads had to be pumped up in power essentially nerfing other builds because enemies scale now. These won't be fixed because CDPR does big untested patches instead of a lot of little ones. You had one job, CDPR. Build and improve on the base game, not create something from untested scratch.

Still has game-breaking bugs, now ads

Updated the game recently and now I have a gaudy launcher.... for my launcher. What? Why? Oh, to throw the ultimate upgrade in my face. Got it. I started playing this game in earnest about a month ago and thought they had ironed out most of the game-breaking bugs. I was indeed wrong. Still getting stuck inside of things, cars spawning inside of each other and blowing up, and UI bugs that persist through saved games, requiring going back hours of progress to fix once you've found out what's going on. The story and environment are good. The gameplay (specializing Netrunner, etc...) isn't very satisfying on my current build, but I will start a different build soon and see if I like that better.
