Cyberpunk 2020

Back in the day, I liked Witcher 2. So when I heard that CDPR wanted to bring the Witcher to the next level in an open world setting, I was curious to see if that would succeed. It did! Witcher 3 was all that I wanted and more. What a great company, I thought. Making such a lovingly crafted game that lives up to what's promised. And the expansions were great, too. Could I trust these guys to reach an even higher level in the next game they make? A game they would ship "when ready"? Well, I pre-ordered and found out that I could not. Cyberpunk 2077 launched a broken mess. Night city is the city of T-posing pedestrians that might clip into you and others at any moment. What can go wrong will go wrong in Cyberpunk 2077. It is less a vision of a dark future than a reflection of the darkness we face in present day 2020. The world and your PC may crash at any moment. But don't despair. Enjoy the light moments. Sometimes, you will reach lower areas of Night City and be so weightless that you fly into the abyss. The floor cannot hold you. It has not loaded in yet. Find new ways to survive and adapt to any bizarre situation that the broken world around you might throw at you by quicksaving and quickloading whenever NPCS decide to just stare at your dumb face instead of moving the mandatory quest progression along. Discover magic mirrors that make you go bald whenever you look at them with a hat equipped. Marvel at the public services who warp into any location by the power of horrible game design and coding. The police need not patrol the streets, they are always right behind you. Why have the paramedics pick up anyone when the whole scene can just despawn and respawn the vehicle as it is flying away? Cyberpunk is the game of 2020. A broken mess. A promise not kept. A line crossed and trust flushed down the toilet. But not all is lost, friends. My refund might come through by the end of this year. The game will not, however. Play it in 2077. Maybe. Depends on CDPR.

CDPR's "Inner Fire" Snuffed Out

This review won't detail the many bugs and glitches present on launch. While the current state of the game is synonymous to a Steam Early Access title those can, eventually, be fixed. The core of the game is certainly its massive open world. Cyberpunk 2077 is a beautiful, detailed world populated by braindead AI. While it may please the eyes this beauty is only skin-deep. There is no roleplaying involved like you would expect in a CDPR RPG. The gunplay is passable and serves its role well in the looter-shooter that was once an RPG. The AI is only artificial, lacking any intelligence. Cops spawn meters behind you the moment a crime is committed and no bounty or chase procedures of any kind exist. The story is quite engaging yet forgettable, much like the backstory of your character. 20 minutes of introduction followed by one of the marketing trailer videos being played and soon enough it is two years later. Characters carry the narrative but it is so rushed along that I fail to care for them beyond their performance. Ultimately I enjoyed this game but I could not recommend it easily to others. A looter shooter set in a cyberpunk setting with decent voice acting, excellent music and audio, and a world begging to be worked upon in the future to earn the lost trust of CDPR's fans.

It's an OK game, but not spectacular.

For the moment, 33 hrs. and countning, forget the bugs, the game is OK, but not spectacular, I cannot see any innovation about gameplay experience, imagine GTA V (only 1st person) + Fallout 4 + a bit of Skyrim = Cyberpunk 2077. Sometimes this game is "press F simulator" (F in my keyboard is to choose a dialogue option or do something because the NPC ordered you). I cannot see any innovation about the story or the gameplay. CP2077 has the "The Witcher 3 Syndrome", there are items that increase 0.03% on some stat, tons of useless items, you'll receive 1 million common guns and 60 secs later you will receive a better gun, awful inventory menu, I fucking hate to call the car when it's near to me and it stops 30 meters away and I have to walk the distance to use the car or don't come, why the fuck there is a 3rd person option ONLY when I'm using the car and for the rest I need to play 1st person?. Also, there is no sense of urgency, your character will die in 2 weeks but you can do secondary quests as many as you want. CDPR promised us expanded personalization, but I can only choose 3 size of dicks and a vagina... a vagina that you cant see and you can't personalize the dick.... there are only 3 dicks to choose... and that's all. I cannot create a pale character, very limited skin colour, not so many hair options, many options for the eyes, but the rest it's pretty much the same as a regular game... but I'll finish the game. Thank you. PS: Panam is annoying as fuck, after you finish a mission she will call you after very few minutes.

Have waited 25 years for this game

Yes, I have a Cyberpunk 2020 book on my bookshelf. Unfortunately, this doesn't really compare. You see, that was a Role Playing Game. This is a poorly written rail shooter. The montage that skips all the early character development? Should have been a video montage of writers and producers making poor story decisions at CDPR. Can't rebind keys away from noob WASD's. Can't make any real choices. Two stars because the city looks cool. If you just want cool city scenery with a rail shooter attached, this is the game for you. If you want an RPG, keep looking.

Expected W3 feels, got GTA4 ones instead

1. The good: 1.1 Great music! 10/10 1.2 Nice graphics! 10/10 1.3 Top notch voice acting and animations, maybe the best I have seen 10/10 2. The mediocre: 2.1 The story. I wanted this to be something on the level I experienced with KOTOR 1, Mass effect 1 or 3, Witcher 3, but unfortunately even though the story is not bad, I got something more akin to GTA 5/4. I cared for the characters in CP2077 as much as I did for the ones in the GTA games. Which is not bad, not good. 7/10 2.2 The shooting. I do not play a lot of shooters, some people complain about the shooting saying it's floaty, maybe so, but I kind of enjoyed it in some places. 7/10 2.3 The world. The world at the beginning looks amazing. But a few hours into the game..it dawns on you: it's fake, plastic, railroaded. This is mostly because there is almost no AI to the cars, pedestrians or police. Cars cannot and will not go around your parked car in the middle of the road. Pedestrians behave the same at the same time you fire a gun in the air, the display the exact same choreographed animation. Police spawns behind you because there is no AI to get the police to you from a couple of streets away. 6/10 Had worse. The bad: 3.1 The choices. This game offers you no real choice. The choices in this game remind me of Telltale games where you only have the choice in what your dialog choices are, but not their consequences. The game appears to offer you at least one big choice but the unfortunately, that will bring you to almost the same place as the other ones. 2/10 Railroaded. 3.2 The RPG. This is an action game, not an RPG. Sure you have skills and stuff, but they mostly only offer you incremental increases like: 50+ vitality, +5% attack speed. These skills do not alter the way you play. 4/10 3.3 Bugs. I did experience plenty of frustrating bugs. I had to reload plenty of the times because NPCs disappeared or because I could not sprint anymore. I will forget this game much faster than I imagined. 3/5
