Just spent 130h of play. Great, great experience. Definitely the game still require more polished content. It could be pitty not to go more deep inside the city and the story. Good music. Good charactets. I have deep need for more. I have feeling the present game is just touch of what might be there. Waiting with hope
I had been on media blackout on this game for a long time. So I didn't really follow any of the hype, the launch or the blacklash that occured afterward. I am glad I didn't. The negative press might have swayed me from playing a game that I have enjoyed far more than any other game I have played in years.
I have tried to come up with a comparison so some of my friends knew what kind of game it was, and I would say. It feels and plays a little bit like Skyrim, but with guns, set in the near future, but more adult, and with better writing. It is easy to get lost in Night City, and just take everything in. Its an immersive game world that is easy to lose yourself in. The graphics are top notch, the audio is Dolby Atmos and sounds excellent. The Quests are engaging, and the characters are interesting. I am running on a i7 8700k with a RTX 2080ti. Cant max everything out, but I played with enough of the settings to get it looking great with some raytracing and get a decent frame rate.
There are some bads to it. The AI can be frankly kind of dumb. The difficulty leans a bit to easy (take your time, and before too long even the hardest difficulty is a breaze). The driving, is not good, but servicable. There are some bugs, but nothing game breaking for me. To be perfectly honest, the skyrim comparison seems spot on to me, cause a lot of the bugs and glitches feel skyrim in nature.
So if you can deal with Skyrim level of weirdness, then this game shouldnt be an issue for you.
But really that is all I can say about negatives. The more I play, the more that I like it. There has been moments playing, that are very exciting and memorable. Some of it is grotesquely shocking, while others are pulling at the heart strings. The only shame is that I do not have more time in the week to play.
This game has a lot of similar vibes to that of GTA, Fallout, Far Cry, and Borderlands (and maybe even a splash of Destiny)
- GTA, because of the crime and city feel. You can interact with pretty much anyone or anything (even if the dialogue or options are limited like bystanders/civilians). The social media and communication implemented in the game are similar as well
- Fallout, because of the futuristic technology. For example, quickhacking/breach protocols and the loot system have a similar design to that of the VATS system. Also, the use of chems, food, and other concoctions used for an advantage in combat are alike. And last but not least, it's rich in lore
- Far Cry, because of just how the playstyle feels; how interactive you are with your surroundings and using it to your advantage when encountering enemies and/or completing tasks/missions. And too, the graphics sort of just take me back there at times
- Borderlands, because of the craziness you experience at times. The weapon/armor grade system (common, uncommon, rare, legendary) is pretty similar and the gear is often pretty unique
- As for what they all have in common, they have a plethora of missions (especially side quests), ample weapon customization, perk/award systems, an open world, and there's almost always something to do
The only gripe I have with this game so far are the handful of bugs (whether visual, audio, UI, etc) and the fact that you receive 3+ quests after completing a quest - makes you feel like you're never going to catch up. The messaging feature is also a nuisance, but I mostly just open/close them unless it's required to respond (kinda like in real life lol)
What I love the most so far is being able to use my surroundings to my advantage, like quickhacking/breach protocols
Oh, and as far as bugs go (for PC at least), it's usually solved by saving and loading that saved game. Repairing and/or updating your game/files may help too (only had to do it once)
The story is great. Beside the main mission there are a lot of sidemissions to do.
Graphics are really beautiful! And there are a lot of details in the game. Walking around Nightcity after sunset is a joy.
The game runs nicely 60-120 fps on my rig with every graphic setting on max, RTX on psycho and dlss on quality (i7-10700, RTX3070, QHD-display).
I have the game on Xbox Series X and PC. I prefer the game on PC because the shooting out of a window in a car chase is quite difficult with a controller.
I cannot understand the negative bashing of the game. Its not like a big investment. Its a good intertainment that will last for many many hours.
Bought the game and played prepatch about 100 hours and have aout 150 post patch. Yes there were a lot of bugs (updating your drivers fixes most of them), yes it's the worst driving simulator since Mass Effect (ugh), yes the devs still have a lot of work to do... That said the story line is good and they got has the most important aspect right: Its FUN! characters will make you laugh and make you angry and make you care about your choices.
Is it perfect no. IS it worth $50? Well yes, yes it is. I have 250+ hours in it so that works out to about 20 cents an hour. Pretty cheap entertainment. I'll probably put another hundred in on my third play through.
IF youy like RPGs and you like cyberpunk/shadowrun you'll probably love this.
