A very fun game to play. It's really addictive. The many items give a lot of replayability, the difficulty is well-paced, and the two DLCs are definitely worth it. I spent hours having fun on this game.
The soundtrack is amazing, making it never boring to play with it on.
Give it a try. It's worth your money.
Nothing else quite like it out there. Great gameplay, charming pixel art and an amazing soundtrack.
If you've got no rhythm it's not for you, otherwise it amazing.
I've been lousy at rhythm games since the DDR craze from over a decade ago but this game has honed my skills up such a pleasant yet exacting difficulty slope that I'm not only hooked but continually feel like I'm improving. After 100 hours I still don't think I can survive as Aria any time soon, dying if I miss a beat, but it's still thrilling to get in the zone in normal mode and outsmart and out-step raves of monsters and some truly catchy boss fights. I had to spend a while in the practice rooms before I could beat the game, which you're allowed to do in chunks as well as upgrade your character for a run should you desire.
I don't know of any rogue-likes with decent stories but the game does a fine job with the voiced cut scenes. There's also a slew of unlockable characters with different restrictions. There's an awful lot of game here that delivers its core premise with style and diversity. And of course, the killer soundtrack.
The game is centered around a gimmick, moving across the board to a beat. If you don't move at the same time as the beat, you don't move at all. And there's a clock you have to beat on each map. It's a fun gimmick. But strip that away and you aren't left with much.
For a rogue lite game it's just lacking The biggest thing it's lacking is depth. Not just lack of depth of interesting mechanics/items/enemies outside of the beat movement.
Rogue games are about making decisions and risks to survive and grow stronger. But each game is very short, maybe 3 levels or so. Which goes against the ideas of a rogue-like that make them fun. So the programmer decided we didn't need any ability to save, which makes the game a pain for anyone who wants to be able to stop playing when they need to.. There is a option to go on longer runs, but again no ability to save.
Instead each run unlocks things that make you stronger, but it doesn't take long to unlock everything. This unlock is the only thing the game saves.
