Some reviewers say this is a point and click game - no it is not. It tries to look like one, but it is more a arcade jumper than point and click. Yes, you pick an object here and there but mostly it is about jumping around escaping the monster that will kill you because the game controls just plain and simply suck.
Did not spend much time with this, because I hate games whose difficulty levels are created by giving you crappy controls and endless let's try again - rinse & repeat - moments.
Two stars because it looks and sounds nice and did not cost that much.
You will die A LOT in this game.
Since you don't know what items you can interact with, and what will trigger a death/kill scene, you will be forced to redo a chapter many, many times, in an effort to continue.
Coupled with the bad controls, this makes the game really tedious, as you have to redo your progress that was wiped out by your death, which you couldn't have know in advance.
Be aware of this before you buy.
It's not an Adventure / Puzzle game but rather a Platformer / Puzzle with Stealth elements. You try something, die, and try to understand what buttons with which timing should be clicked in a scene. Repeat in the next scene. Some people like this, I don't.
The game feels like a mix between a platformer and a point and click game, unfortunately it does both these elements poorly.
The platforming, as in any jumping puzzles it has, are very few but are also very annoying because of the very poor "physics" of this game, you will be sliding off the platforms a lot causing many deaths and thus level resets, having to try the puzzles over and over.
The puzzle or what feels like the point and click elements of the game could take a hint from more modern point and click games, modern games make sure to highlight points of interest when you hold down a button, this is so you don't have to go hunting for pixels. Unfortunately you will be pressing the interaction button all over all the levels to hopelessly try to find what you can and can't interact with.
Unfortunately the game gets really obtuse with its puzzles about the half way point when you enter the witch's house. I'm not going to spoil anything but prepare to punch your screen in frustration once you reach this place and finally find out what the real solution is.
The biggest problem is the game's obtuseness with puzzles, no you can't use the two or three obvious ways of solving this problem, you have to do it the way the developers intended you to solve it, that way is obscured by a game mechanic they don't show or teach you and will never again be used after this one time and makes no sense. The game even takes effort to un-teach you the way to solve this puzzle with earlier puzzles. Oh and as a bonus you can totally screw yourself by interacting too much with the environment and killing yourself. Yup, its one of those games. Horribly frustrating.
Apart from those massive issues I kinda like this game, it is a very short game, the atmosphere is nice, it tells a very simple, short but complete story, and most of the puzzles wouldn't be that bad if you actually knew what you can and can't interact with.
This is an old fashioned style point and click adventure and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it from the amazing art work to sound through soundtrack. It carried it's storyline from beginning to end and even though it could be considered to be more on the scary side, it ironically has endearing characters and charm and this is confirmed through to the end. Recommended for die hard adventurers of the older sort as well as those that enjoy their gaming enjoyment parameters to run outside of the box.
