Description

The eternal harvester of galactic empires has returned! Witness massive waves of Creeper flood across the 3D terrain in this real time strategy game where the enemy is a fluid. Build out your economic base with energy and mined wares. Assemble your forces and struggle against the creeper on all fronts as it floods and fills the map. Take the high ground with your forces to avoid the creeper as waves crash around your base. Increase your lines of sight and range on high ground, but beware the aerial units. And, if you last long enough, launch orbital weapons and call down devastating strikes on the enemy.

Creeper World 4 continues the iconic and well received Creeper World RTS franchise, expanding into a new dimension of strategic possibilities and threats. The galaxy once again finds itself culled and utterly in ruins. Guide a scientist and cohorts through the ultimate test of survival and restore hope to the galaxy... one world at a time. Play small maps casually, while pausing and issuing orders. Alternately, play massive maps in real-time with full save support. The choice is yours. Play the story missions, the community crafted missions, or use the built in mission generator for infinite possibilities. Use the map editor to make your own maps for fun and sharing. Create custom units, or even custom game play modes, and share those as well.

A dissapointing addition to the series

Mostly this game is Creeper World 3 in 3D. There have however been some changes, almost universally negative. Firstly though, the good: It's another creeper world game, with an enjoyable enough plot to introduce you to each of the tools of the game. The 3D is a nice touch and doesn't detract at all, indeed it brings a nice bit of polish to things, and helps convey the scale of the challenge. The basic premise is still there - expand enough to get a flow of energy to power enough weapons to drive back the creeper, turn the tide, clean things up. Most of the old favourites are there, cannon and mortar forming the backbone of your defense / fightback. The first few missions play as you'd expect with the standard formula and are pretty good fun. Then they bring in the snipers and air defense, and here it goes downhill. Previous games focussed on building a front, and driving the creeper back. Now though there are many mechanisms with which the creeper will get lobbed into "anywhere" in your base. The AI is smart enough that the "anywhere" is where you have the fewest defenses. Then there are free moving things that you need snipers to intercept, and the range of the missile defenses means you'll need a few of these dotted around all over. The result - it's no longer building a front, you just have to build towers everywhere, you can't really move them on because anywhere that doesn't have a full complement of missiles, snipers and cleanup cannons is bombed/blobbed/lobbed. It sounds like a nice dynamic, and a real advance to the strategy, but I found it drained all the fun, and resulted in a much more standard, build, build, build kind of game. The strategy is no longer to hold the line, it's now to flood the game with units, leave anything unprotected and it's hit. It's enjoyable enough to play through and beat all the missions, but overall I felt the magic was gone for this game.

Awesome new chapter

If you liked CW3 or Particle Fleet, you'll definitely love this one, 3D added a new dimension of epicness, and height based tactical moves are much more fun now. Seenig a massive wave of creeper closing in on your base is quite impressive and scary (shift+f unlocks free camera and shift+r locks it back). So far the game itself is same formula but with a bit more diverse resources, new tactical options and new story, which is awesome. Controlls and UI can be a bit clunky, but not in a detrimental way. Highly recommend. If you don't know what this game is about, it's a tower defense akin to Harvest: Massive Encounter, Mindustry or Revenge of the Titans, where you must build factories and units, not only defences, but instead of standard enemies of different kinds, you fight against viscous liquid that destroys everything it touches (and some other dangers) and most of the time it's you who must progress through the map to get something. It's not that hard in the beginning, but can get properly hardcore when missions are timed or resources are limited. Content is, well...it's endless, campaign, dailies, community maps, old dev experiments, procedural map generator, mission/map editor. Oh, and leaderboards.

Creeper World 3D

I've never played first or the second game, but i played through, like, about a half (or more) of the Creeper World 3. And this is basically exactly the same thing, but in THREE DEE — despite the new dimension the fluids still do not fall into the maps' infinite pits. They've missed the release there, it's third games which are traditionally go into THREE DEE, and it seems the third game is really similar to the first one anyway. These games (sans 2) are kind of a casual RTS derivative. People who did castle attacks in Age of Empires 2 or slowly moved army fronts on enemy's scripted paths in Sega's version of Dune 2 inspired the popular tower defence genre and PVE RTS genre, like in Периметр and this series. (And Creeper World has significant similarities with Периметр). What you do here is build your income\outcome based economy (reference Total Annihilation), set up your defences and start a war of attrition. For your convenience the towers can relocate and there's terraforming. I think here the nullifier works differently here. It disables the structures and the creeper can get its buildings back from you. Fourth game is faster paced and shorter, which is good. For people who want to play the same game for thousands of hours there are tens more of the maps, a map generator, and a ton of community made maps. This game is some kind of a prequel? Reboot? The overall story is kind of okay, but the plot is weak and the writing is dumb. You just read briefings from three unfunny unquirky mad AIs. Near the end you are asked to disperse your seed (of knowledge), by the people who have much greater capabilities than your solitary space-cell. Why didn't they do that? Also it seems the game makes a mistake of equating a clone and the original consciousness. Creeper World 4 uses low-poly simple graphics and layered terrain. It look good enough, even a little bit pretty at times. But the GUIs are ugly, flat and sometimes even improperly fit.

Great new entry in the series

I've been a fan of the series for a while now and I'm enjoying this one just as much as the previous ones. It's the first one that renders the world in 3d which is neither good nor bad in my opinion. Except for a few additions like new resources and a new upgrade system to keep things fresh, the game plays mostly the same as creeper world 1 or 3, which is a plus in my books. Being used to the 2d top view, I suggest to assign "top view" to a key on the keyboard (I chose "b" for build mode) because it makes it much easier to line up things to the grid!

Long winded and AI is too simple.

I am new to this series, i did not grow up on the previous games. anyway i found the AI to be dead simple. since i grew up on RedAlert, i found the lack of any complexity here to be old and tired. this opponent will not make you think, and honestly i think it's misleading to call this a "real-time" strategy game because of that. it's basically just a puzzle game, since the AI doesn't really change anything. that's basically my whole complaint with the game, but since it's a major part of the game, it's a deal breaker. if you're not already burnt out on RTS games with lack lusting enemies, then you'll probably like this.
