great ~simple~ version of Creatures

I played the original Creatures (also available through GOG) when it first came out. It was fun but very complex. When I saw that GOG had the complete Creatures collection I grabbed them on impulse, but somehow avoided trying Creatures VIllage at first, as it appeared too ~kidlike~ and simplistic. The truth is : it is, but it's also very very good. It doesn't sport all the panels and controls the other versions have, and reduces them to positive/negative feedback. It also has many minigames hidden in the massive world, and the grafics are bigger and even more detailled than in the more complex versions. That makes the game much more relaxing and actually fun than its ~mature~ counterparts. I ended up introducing my 4 year old daugthers to it, and they absolutely *love* it : the norns are incredibly cute (as always) and quite intelligent (as is to be expected from the franchise), there are tons of interesting things to do but the controls can be grasped almost immediately, and, as can be seen on the screenshots, it's colourful. Additionally, it is, in many ways, educational (be it about the life/death cycle alone) If you have kids, no pets or are just looking for something relaxing and fun to keep running in a window : that's the game for you. Note : I didn't try it in wine, but it runs fine in a virtualBox, in case you're using linux or OSX.

Nice game for your kids

On this site, I have found quite a few games that I played when I was younger, Creatures Village being one of them. I remembered as being a colourful and imaginative game and I still think it is, though now I believe they might have overdone it a bit. Cheery and simple, this little game is definitely aimed at children and while that doesn't necessary mean the game is bad or unenjoyable, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone with an adversity towards sugar. The game itself is pretty large and quite a few minigames are hidden in this one to provide you with some diversity and they are actually fun the first three times. The creatures themselves are cute and I got a certain sense of fulfilment seeing them grow. Don't expect to spend hours a week on this or find anything challenging. If cutesy things and AI games aren't for you, skip this one. Perhaps think about buying the game for your children or for yourself if you're up for something nice and relaxing.

For all the little ones

I believe this game is THE perfect game for children of the age of 4 till 12. When I was a five year old girl, this game was all I played. I seriously got addicted ;) This game is very instructive for your children because this game will teach them about the circle of life. But the most important reason to give this game to your children is because they like to explore the simple based (but very big) world of the norns. Everywhere are little surprises that will them make love it even more. Your children will love the funny and cute norns. There are many ways to play this game and you will feel like you're a friend and mother/father of the norns. They will start loving them, but you will find out that norns don't live forever. I have very good memories about this game. This game is absolutely the perfect birthday present! (btw sorry for the bad English, but I'm from the Netherlands)

Nice sophisticated simulation

The AI is quite impressive. You have to take care of little creatures called Norns. You have to teach them how to respond to their needs, though they can learn this by themselves and even each other(it's quite fascinating to see one little Norn say that it's hungry and an adult Norn telling it to eat some fruit!). When they get sick or hurt you can treat them with medical devices. You also need to take care of them by locking doors and creating defensive systems. You have to maintain the population by encouraging them to breed. (If you didn't know how, you can do this by putting a male next to a female and telling him to "push Norn":)). Before the Norns can speak, you can guide their actions by petting/tickling them to re-inforce good actions and spanking them to correct bad ones. Later you can do this by typing words. Obviously, teaching them to speak is important, and you can do this by telling them what each thing is, or by using an automated machine to teach them. It's a fascinating game which should provide months of entertainment. If you like virtual-people/creature simulations you can't miss this game. It would also make a good gift for your wife/girlfriend.
