Creature in the Well

Creature in the well is basically a pinball puzzle game. The problem with this though, is it takes the fun out of pinball entirely. Your balls dissappear rather than fall into the dead zone and you have to keep them from disappearing in order to complete puzzles to restore power to certain areas. This is fun at first, but as the game gets a little more difficult and focuses too much on the puzzles, you find yourself getting a bit frustrated and ready to just go for the refund. Let me be clear, this is a really neat idea - I guess I was just hoping for "defeat enemies using pinball tactics" rather than puzzle after puzzle after puzzle. Me personally, I'm just not that big into puzzle games and that's more or less what this is.

Unique gameplay, which falls into action-puzzle genre. The art style is great; however, the Indie nature is really evident in that they re-use assets regularly.

Enjoyed messing around with the game's mechanics for the majority of ot. Truth be told, I was more interested in the story than the gameplay. Also bonus points for having an epilogue in the credits, I have a soft spot for that sort of thing. The ending became pretty challenging and a bit tedious. Other than that, it was a short but enjoyable game.

Lovely short game (took me barely 5 hours to 100% it) with a novel gameplay concept mixing pinball/Arkanoid with a hack n slash, and a fun story about beating up an very rude evil monster. A really fun experience well worth the full price!

Interesting concept, but poorly executed as aiming accurately whilst always moving is difficult and having to charge your shots before release is an unnecessary step. It’s mostly relatively easy and short with very simple puzzles, annoying combat and timed challenges, but switches from frustrating to dull to frantic to repetitive very quickly. The later bosses are much more difficult, and with minimal upgrades with unclear functions, they can block progress completely. The art style and mysterious setting is great and creates intrigue, but the story is weak and it’s just not that fun to play. Mindlessly hitting the balls works far better than skill and timing, and with a lack of overall variety in its challenges, no replay value and silly little oversights such as a poor map, it’s a big disappointment after the opening scene finishes.
